Approximately 2½L third to Requinto Dawn in Division 2 of the 5f Brocklesby at Doncaster. Has the benefit of experience over all of his rivals, and therefore looks set to run another good race if taking to this surface, and if slightly sharper for the application of blinkers (replaces cheek-pieces). Also entered at Bath on Friday.

Lost some value from foal to yearling, but this son of Finjaan is a half-brother to a 6F AW winner in the shape of Kindly, in addition to a 7F Fibresand winner (Prince Of Time).

€15,000 yearling, with owners Ontoawinner venturing South to another new trainer. Eighth foal and a half-brother to four winners including AW regular Chiswick Bey. Also entered at Bath on Friday.

Sharp pedigree, and this son of Monsieur Bond represents a trainer who tends to do well in these type of races. Second foal, with his Dam Normandy Maid herself being a 5F two-year-old winner.

€16,000 yearling by Havana Gold out of Auntie Kathryn (herself a 5F winner). Half-brother to 5F AW winner Royal Celebration, so one to watch in the market with leading AW rider booked.

€8,000 yearling and a second foal by Sir Prancealot out a Kodiac mare (Cinarosa). Well related, and market expectations will reveal more.

First foal by Swiss Spirit out of Athwaab. Her Dam was a tough 5F to 6F winner (including as a two-year-old), but she very much hails from a stable which aren't renowned for their juvenile winners.

Forecasts

Black Orange (11/10), Brian Ryan (5/1), Our Man In Havana (11/2), Corinthia Knight (13/2), Crownthorpe (13/2), Tie Em Up Tel (16/1), Swiss Psalm (25/1)

Verdict

Experience is so often the key in these early season juvenile events, with Black Orange finishing an excellent third in a division of Doncaster's Brocklesby Stakes on the opening day of the turf campaign. However, he is as 'green' as the others going round a bend (and on synthetics), so there's possibly some value in taking the Gay Kelleway trained juvenile on. Corinthia Knight looks an appealing sort for Ontoawinner and Archie Watson, but CROWNTHORPE is a speedy type on breeding who could prove suited by this sharp track, and Malton trainer Richard Fahey surely isn't sending him on the long journey South just for some valuable racecourse experience.
  1. Crownthorpe
  2. Black Orange
  3. Corinthia Knight
