Won a maiden on soft ground over 7f at Ayr last season but hasn't really had much chance to prove himself in handicaps since then. Posted a respectable effort on his reappearance at Wolverhampton last month but best to use the market as a gauge before assuming he step things up a notch now he is switched back to turf.
Won his maiden at Musselburgh but lost his way a touch afterwards. Been gelded during the off-season, so may now be a different proposition. Sure to be kept busy after this but one to be wary of on his seasonal debut.
Only raced on good to soft up until now so remains to be seen how he copes with faster ground. But plenty of scope from his current rating and makes his handicap debut at a reasonable level.
Made sufficient progress to land a nursery at Newcastle last September; not seen out since but the form is working out well, so worthy of consideration even though he has a 9lb higher mark to contend with this time around.
Form over sprint distances looks solid enough in the context of this race and has scope for improvement. Has the hood applied for this first attempt at 1m but pedigree suggests the step up in trip ought to suit.
Cost 85,000 gns as a yearling but struggled to make an impact in three maidens last season. Not unduly burdened for his handicap debut as a result and may improve foe tacking this sector of racing. Yard very much respected and one to consider if the vibes are right.
Fared well over 7f at this course last season but was disappointing when upped to 1m when last seen out. The firmer surface may be in her favour but she needs to conclusively prove her stamina before she can confidently be supported.
The step up in trip should suit on breeding but his form in maidens was nothing but ordinary and he has a lot of improvement to find. His yard did win the first running of this race, so has to be accepted that he follows a tried and trusted path. The betting should help shed some light on expectations.
Likes to make the running but has hit the buffers on a number of occasions and other look to possess more scope for improvement now she tries a mile for the first time. Her dam was placed in a Group 3 over an extended 10f, so quite feasible that she'll cope with the new test but her style of running will always leave her vulnerable to a strong finisher.
Only modest form over the minimum distance last terms but has a likeable pedigree and should cope with the step up in trip. Debuts for a yard that has done well with three-year-olds, so interesting to see if support arrives to back up his claims.
Forecasts
Golconda Prince (11/4), Heir of Excitement (11/2), Miss Sheridan (15/2), Iron Islands (15/2), Geophony (8/1), Lucy's Law (10/1), Conistone (12/1), Rebounded (12/1), Vintage Dream (16/1), Breakwater Bay (20/1)
A tough one to call but a chance is taken that stepping up in trip will open up a new avenue for VINTAGE DREAM and is marginally preferred ahead of Golconda Prince, who is respected but needs to step things up considerably on last season's form. Iron Islands also appeals as one to keep on the right side, while Rebounded is another than can explore new pursuits if his stamina holds out.
- Vintage Dream
- Golconda Prince
- Iron Islands
