Has produced his best form at Carlisle and won back-to-back wins there in October. Back to form last time out at the same track albeit in a fortunate way (clear leader fell at last) and still has work to do off this mark.
Winning chaser when with his former yard once over C&D and won well for this yard at Carlisle in October. Beaten off higher marks since in three starts but should be competitive off this mark and back over a more suitable trip.
Useful chaser who was in good form at this time last time winning at Wetherby and Perth. Looks to be working his way back to form and ran better than his final placing suggested last time out.
Gritty stayer who can look a very hard ride on occasions but did manage to end a long losing run recently in 4m chase here. Claimer that he has gelled with recently is absent through injury and it remains to be seen how he goes over this shorter trip.
Has run some creditable races this year (runner-up four times in a row) but has looked lazy in some of those runs. Very lacklustre display last time out and the blinkers he wore last time out are removed here.
Very capable chaser in the past and has been placed in a Grade 1. Not won since 2013 though and has had injuries and not shown much of late in Hunter Chases.
Front-running chaser who took advantage of being given a chance by the handicapper when winning over C&D in May. Can always be dangerous when allowed to dominate and may be a little better than his recent form figures suggest.
Dual winner last year over fences and his last win came here over a shorter trip. Has flattered to deceive on a few occasions this year and made little impression last time out.
Took this race last season off a 5lb lower mark and his last two runs have suggested that a full blown revival is around the corner. Last win came over this trip although has looked better over shorter and can travel well in his races.
Forecasts
Nakadam (4/1), Ballyben (9/2), Scotswell (5/1), Harry The Viking (7/1), Double Whammy (17/2), Carrigdhoun (9/1), Green Flag (10/1), Spanish Fleet (10/1), Oscar O'scar (11/1)
A little more quality on the card here with several that will fancy their chance of taking this with last year’s winner Nakadam being one of those with a leading chance despite the suspicion that he may well be better over a little shorter. Carrigdhoun was a fortunate winner last time out and faces a stiff test off this mark and for that reason DOUBLE WHAMMY is preferred. This looks very much his time of year and he’s been working his way back to form. This test looks on the short side for Harry The Viking and Ballyben would be given the nod over him with the evergreen Scotswell sure to give things a good go off the front.
- Double Whammy
- Nakadam
- Ballyben
