Won twice this season at Kelso over C&D (two-time winner over C&D and three from four at this course) in December and February. Failed to follow-up his last win at Haydock last time out and looks less than straightforward.

Lough Derg Jewel16
Age: 6|  Weight: 11-10| J: W T Kennedy| T: D McCain Jnr| OR:  118
13/2
Novice hurdle winner over C&D and makes his handicap debut here off a reasonable mark. Trainer and jockey have formed a good partnership this season and this one looks a likely pace setter.

Winner at Ayr in December off a long break over 3m in testing conditions at a big price. Well below form in two starts since then at Ayr and Kelso and overall unreliable.

11/2
Four-time course winner whose last win came over further in November under today's pilot and was his first win in a handicap. Yet to win anywhere else and ran another good race around here last time out although his mark is a testing one.

Took an age to get off the mark over hurdles finally scoring in a Musselburgh novice in November over (2m6f) in a weak event. Comes back of a break here in handicap company off a career high mark.

Still a maiden over hurdles but has run some creditable races of late and often travels strongly. Runner-up last time out at Sedgefield over slightly shorter but his mark keeps rising for defeats.

Trainer won this last year and this one bounced back to form last time out after a break and back over hurdles. That win came off a 6lb lower mark and he's been inconsistent so far and it remains to be seen if he can follow this up.

Winner over hurdles in May at Cartmel off a mark of 108 over an extended 3m but has really struggled for form of late. Continues below form and best watched here.

Age: 6|  Weight: 10-6| J: Finian O'Toole(5)| T: Mrs S A Watt| OR:  100

Showed very little this season before running a decent race last time out at Hexham back over hurdles and without any headgear. Needs to back up that run though but the mark is falling and runs off a career low here.

Brackenmoss Rory85
Age: 5|  Weight: 10-0| J: Henry Brooke| T: A C Whillans| OR:  92
18/1
Still a maiden and has shown glimpses of form over hurdles but hasn't really lived up to his promise. Pulled-up the last twice (saddle slipped last time) but still has plenty to do here.

Forecasts

Buckled (4/1), The Doorman (9/2), Landecker (11/2), Mondlicht (6/1), Lough Derg Jewel (13/2), Too Many Chiefs (12/1), Maggie Blue (12/1), Forty Crown (12/1), Minnie Milan (14/1), Maraweh (16/1), Brackenmoss Rory (18/1), Hartforth (33/1)

Verdict

None of these have what you would call cast-iron profiles but it should be a competitive heat all the same although it’s one to be far from confident about. Landecker is a hard one to trust but does love it around here while a group of Lough Derg Jewel, Buckled and Mondlicht are hard to rule out on their recent form. THE DOORMAN has often flattered to deceive but off a mark such as this he should be able to go close and is given the overall call in a tricky opener.
  1. The Doorman
  2. Buckled
  3. Lough Derg Jewel
