Generally in good form and sets a good standard in this company. Just held at Uttoxeter last time out and was far from disgraced when he finished third in a Grade 2 at Haydock back in February. Up to his higher mark to date but will be hard to beat if he continues to improve.
Cost €8,000 and is a half-brother to a handful of winners over hurdles. Yard is in fair form with a 13% strike-rate (from 30 runners) in the last fortnight, so one to bear in mind if supported before the off.
Only modest form in point-to-points and was pulled up on his hurdling debut over C&D last month. Much more required here and difficult to forward with any real confidence.

Won a Bumper before joining his current illustrious trainer; and has shaped with plenty of promise in two starts over hurdles. Going the right way and makes the shortlist as a leading contender this time around.

Fell at the first on his hurdles debut but has subsequently shown no signs of it affecting his confidence by posting a couple of near misses at Uttoxeter and Wetherby. Going the right way and, with his yard remaining in good form, he can force his way into the frame if he can expand on his progressive profile.

Failed to act on the ground and was pulled up on his debut in a Bumper at Hereford back in February. Missed a couple of engagements since then (notably withdrawn when scheduled to run at Southwell earlier this month). First-time headgear and better ground may help but others have a more convincing profile.
Not discredited when fourth on his hurdles debut over 2m at this course back February but struggled to see out the trip when tried over this distance last time out at Uttoxeter. This less demanding course may bring about some improvement but the percentage call is to look elsewhere for a win only option.
Shown very little promise in two Bumpers and a spin over hurdles and makes limited appeal in this company.

Rated 77 at his best on the Flat and comes into this after a respectable hurdling debut on heavy ground at Wincanton earlier this month. Needs to step things up again and prove that wasn't just a one-off performance. But can pay his way before too long once he has more experience of racing under this code to his name.

Forecasts

Jameson (4/5), Ballyarthur (7/4), Kafella (7/2), With Pleasure (12/1), Ramonex (16/1), Ballyantics (20/1), Rock And Roll King (50/1), Murphy's Nails (66/1), Corbett Court (100/1), Our Phillie Lily (100/1)

Verdict

Not hard to whittle the field down to just a handful of likely contenders, with Ballyarthur standing out as the most likely principle player. He is certainly worth a saver in this company but, odds permitting, there may be as much value in a speculative each-way punt on KAFELLA shaking up the likely favourite. The Dan Skelton-trained gelding looks a progressive type and with this slight drop in trip in his favour, he doesn't have too much to find to get competitive here. Jameson is another obvious contender and, in representing a powerful yard. is another for the shortlist. With Pleasure and Rock And Roll King may pay their way during the summer Jumps season and are worth noting for future reference at least.
  1. Kafella
  2. Ballyarthur
  3. Jameson
