Didn't appear to stay the trip at Warwick last time and is dropped back to a tri he has won at before here. Now only 1lb higher than when winning at Doncaster in November after some mediocre efforts lately, but this better ground will suit and yard are slowly coming back to form.

Too many poor efforts on his card lately to be confident about his chances but did win here back in October and is only 2lb higher here. Drying conditions will help his cause and despite some poor looking form figures, a better run here would not surprise.

Has been very consistent this season and was rewarded for it with a victory at Wincanton last October (on good to firm). Slight question mark hangs over him about the suitability of the track (all good efforts lately right-handed) but other than that, ought to be on the premises again.

Has occasionally looked a tricky ride but did nothing wrong over this C&D last time out, winning with a little in hand. 8lb rise for that and quicker ground here ask new questions of him, but is consistent and should be thereabouts at the finish.

A little inconsistent, as demonstrated by the fact his two wins this season have been balanced out with two moderate efforts (including a defeat at odds-on at Musselburgh) and never looked happy at Newcastle last time. Needs to bounce back from that and there look better options.

Likes it around here and won this from a 3lb lower mark last year, but recent form leaves plenty to be desired. However, that was also the case when he won last year so is the sort to pop up without any warning. Can't be totally dismissed.

Front-runner has been well beaten as of late, and was well behind Lac Sacre when they met here two weeks ago. No reason to see why that form should be reversed here, and has plenty to do.

No win on the card since 2015, but handicapper has probably had him in his grip for a fair proportion of that time, and that's not the case now (3lb lower than last win). A few of the yard's older handicappers have bounced back recently, giving hope here. Not discounted.

Forecasts

Deputy Commander (11/4), He's A Bully (4/1), Peckhamecho (9/2), Lac Sacre (5/1), Bassarabad (7/1), Clubs Are Trumps (8/1), Paddy The Oscar (8/1), Thegreendalerocket (10/1), Loughalder (10/1)

Verdict

He comes with risks attached, but with a few of the Jonjo O'Neill handicappers refinding their form recently, the suggestion is CLUBS ARE TRUMPS, on a wininng mark if the mood takes him and should find conditions to his liking. His young apprentice ensures there's no weight on his back and he can gain a first success now the cheekpieces are back on. Lac Sacre runs his race more often than not and can pick up the silver, with Thegreendalerocket rounding out the places.
