Half-brother to 5¾f 2yo winner Air Of Mystery and 6f 2yo winner Scofflaw. Dam won over 6f at two and 7f and is a half-sister to a pair of Listed winners. Yard had a recent winner and does turn out some juveniles to win, so market check advised.
€20,000 purchase as a yearling and the first foal of a mare placed over 1m1f who is a half-sister to the Group-placed 1m4f winner Communicator, out of the 6f 2yo winning half-sister to Flat/hurdle winner Altay. Grandam also a 5f 2yo winner. Yard has traditionally done well with these types, though perhaps less so in recent years.
€27,000 yearling. Half-brother to Italian 1m/1m1f winner Titanic Blond out of a 7f winner. Grandam a US 1m and 1m1f Grade Two winner. Yard 1-2 with its juveniles in the opening few days of the season. Interesting.
£52,000 yearling. Half-brother to 7f/1m 2yo winner Firecruise. Dam was a 5f 2yo winner and full-sister to three 5f winners and was also granddaughter of Italian 7f 2yo Listed winner. Stable does well with its juveniles, so another for whom a market check is suggested.
Cost just £6,000 but bred for speed and is a half-brother to winners over 5f and 7f. Dam was a 5f/6f winner at five and a half-sister to 6f 2yo Group Three winner Air Of Distinction and a Listed 2yo winner in Rabican. Yard's record with youngsters not red hot and perhaps one to watch today.
Dam won over 1m4f and is out of the useful 5f 2yo winner Brigh (stayed 1m), herself a half-sister to the 1m-1m4f Group winner Crimson Tide, from the family of Derby winner Shahrastani. Yard's first 2yo runner of the season and still looking for its first winner at this level.
1,500 GNS yearling. Half-brother to 5f-5¾f winner Showbizzy. Dam was a 5f 2yo winner out of a banded winning half-sister to 5f Group One winner Gilt Edged Girl and 5f 2yo Group Two winner Godfrey Street. Yard's first juvenile runner and another where a watching brief is advised unless the market speaks volumes for him.
€5.500 yearling. Dam placed over 5f/6f and a half-sister to 1m winner. Grandam 7f-8½f Listed winner is granddaughter of French 1m 2yo Group Three winner. Stable among the winners and is 10% with its juveniles on turf in recent seasons, so could make a nice debut.
£36,000 yearling out of an unraced half-sister to 1m-1m4f winner Legend Has It out of a maiden full-sister to Irish 1,000 Guineas winner Trusted Partner. Stable in good form and traditionally does well with juveniles, running a 17% strike rate in recent seasons. First 2yo runner this season. Very much respected.
£32,000 yearling. Dam a 6f winner and half-sister to middle distance Flat/2m-2m4f hurdle winner Gram And Ounces, out of half-sister to 6f Group Three winner Ashdown Express and US Grade Two winner Hoh Buzzard. Market check advised.
Forecasts
Zain Flash (10/3), Straight Ash (7/2), Jedi Master (4/1), Airshow (5/1), Kick On Kick On (8/1), Poignant (16/1), Manco Inca (20/1), Bunch Of Thyme (25/1), Shovel It On (28/1), Rockesbury (100/1)
Possibly as big a lottery as tomorrow's Aintree marathon, with a field of debutantes to decipher and perhaps the most sensible option is to stick with the tried and tested trainers who do well with juveniles. Therefore STRAIGHT ASH is suggested for the Richard Hannon yard, while Kick On Kick On, Jedi Master and Zain Flash could also get involved. One for the notebook.
- Straight Ash
- Kick On Kick On
- Jedi Master
