6lb higher than when scoring at Taunton (2m7f, good) in January but never got into it from this mark last time. Needs further improvement to win this and yard's lack of recent winners remains a concern.
Tends to do much better in spring and summer and although powers on the wane (was rated 18lb higher when running in a hunter chase here in April 2016), he has at least managed to win this season. Well beaten from this mark last time however.
9lb higher than when last winning at Taunton in November (2m7f, good) and went well at Taunton from 2lb lower six weeks ago. Not best suited by heavy ground when a faller last time, but back on a sound surface he could be in the shake-up for some prize money.
3lb lower than when last winning at Ludlow in October 2015 and 11lb lower than when runner-up at Uttoxeter last June, so certainly being given a chance again here. Has never worn anything other than a tongue strap before, so if this headgear is effective how could go very well.
Won a heavy ground point-to-point on debut and showed some ability in bumpers and hurdles without winning. Well beaten on handicap/chase debut at Warwick last month (2m4f, soft). This trip more suitable and ran well on good ground in a bumper, so we may see more from 4lb lower today.
Aside from one win on good to soft, all others have been on soft or heavy, so these drier conditions are very much a concern. Otherwise, this trip is no problem and he looks well treated, though he is badly out of form.
0-10 so far and only made the frame once, in a Taunton bumper last year. Has been relatively well fancied in two of his last three starts but has failed to cut the mustard and looks best watched at present.
Forecasts
Butlergrove King (10/3), Arctic Lady (9/2), Better Days (5/1), Somerset Lias (5/1), Cucklington (6/1), Best Boy Barney (7/1), Arbeo (8/1)
A poor contest where Somerset Lias and Arctic Lady look capable of making a race of it, though the suggestion is BUTLERGROVE KING, for whom first-time headgear plus respectable recent form might prove to be a winning combination.
