Took advantage of the mistakes of others in the race to score at Doncaster in January, a good class event for the grade, and unseated rider when still in contention at Ludlow latest. Blinkers tried today to help him concentrate, but yard going through a poor spell at present.

Not seen out since November of 2015 when well beaten at Newbury but had finished second to Darna in a Grade 3 handicap at the Cheltenham Festival that year, form which makes him look well treated here. Likely ground fine and although absence a worry, can't be totally discounted.

Came good around this time last year with a win in a similar graded handicap at Haydock, staying on strongly to win, but very disappointing after that and nothing to be gleaned from last effort in January, pulled up early in the straight. Better ground here may help, but still a risky proposition now.

Rather paying for his consistency as the handicapper has only dropped him a couple of pounds in the last 12 months, despite not having won since 2015. Could be much the same story here, with trip and likely ground ideal, but more likely to place again than win, you feel.

Been in good form this calendar year and gained reward for his efforts when beating Sun Cloud at Sedgefield last time, although that was over half a mile further than today. Is effective at this tri though and as handicapper has only raised him 3lb for that win, every chance of the follow-up.

Can look a hard ride at times but did win at Bangor in November, driven right out for a two-length victory, but nothing much to cheer in last two starts, pulling up after some poor jumping at Ludlow last time out. Cheekpieces back on again today but handicapper slow to relent, and a bit to prove now.

Best of four efforts over fences came at Leicester in January, when beaten 4l by the improving Bells 'N' Banjos, but another poor effort at Catterick latest start. Soft ground possibly to blame then, and gut feeling is there's better to come from him, especially back on better ground. One to consider.

Tends to take his time finding his form each season, and to that end his three efforts this winter (mainly in better company) aren't to be taken too literally. Won at Stratford last June and is working his way back down to a winnable mark. Comes with risks attached but a good run would not surprise.

Forecasts

Pull The Chord (5/2), Hedley Lamarr (11/4), Some Buckle (10/3), Querry Horse (11/1), I Am Colin (12/1), Raktiman (12/1), Monetaire (14/1), One For The Boss (33/1)

Verdict

In the hope that there's improvement forthcoming on this better ground, HEDLEY LAMARR is the suggestion. He's only had the four starts over fences and the Leicester run, when second to an improving horse, would indicate that he's capable of winning a race or two in this sphere. He can prove too good for Raktiman, who continues in good form and is just as effective at this trip as longer, and watch for market support for One For The Boss, who tends to come good when the sun starts to shine.
  1. Hedley Lamarr
  2. Raktiman
  3. One For The Boss
