Pulled up at a big price on his only start over hurdles so far, having made several mistakes. Cheek pieces are on and it will be interesting to see if his jumping has improved, but he seems an unlikely winner of this contest.
Bumper winner at Thurles last March but has struggled since, first in another bumper and then in two maiden hurdles, first being pulled up and then finishing 96L behind the winner over C&D last time. Much more needed here.
Finished second in a bumper won by Death Duty in a bumper, which is obviously good form, but has failed to impress over hurdles, being beaten by 60L+ on four occasions. Looks set to play another minor role here.
Previous form from maiden hurdles is working out very well behind the likes of Death Duty, Monalee and Battleford. Has been unlucky to 'bump into one' on each of those three occasions and he looks a maiden hurdle winner in the making, in conditions that should suit.
First foal of a bumper winner, by Indian River (sire of Hennessy winner/Gold Cup third Native River). Plenty to like about that pedigree and he's an interesting newcomer.
Bumper winner who put in an improved performance last time out to finish only a neck second in a maiden hurdle over slightly further at Naas. The step back in trip may help on that evidence and he has definite claims.
Fell on hurdling debut before finish second on three consecutive occasions. Was beaten favourite on the most recent two of those which is a little concerning, but he should still be improving and can make a bold bid here.
Related to a couple of versatile performers from bot the Flat and jumps, including a half-brother who won a 2m1f hurdle. Worth a check in the market.
Well beaten in two starts in bumpers, most recently at Fairyhouse in January, and he makes his hurdling debut here. Will need to show much more over obstacles to be in with a chance.
Three time winner on the Flat who makes his debut over hurdles today. Was in good form when last seen in two back to back victories at Dundalk earlier this year, and is a half brother to a 2m3f hurdle winner.
Didn't show too much on three starts on the Flat and was similarly held on debut over hurdles over C&D last time. Improvement needed here in what could be a more competitive race.
Placed in a point to point but hasn't really impressed since switching to hurdles. Second place finish at Clonmel (2m2½f, soft to heavy) was a bit more like it but more improvement will be needed here.
Fourth foal of a winner on the Flat by Papal Bull. Pedigree isn't particularly interesting, especially from a hurdling perspective, and he's best watched on debut.
Beaten 119L on hurdling debut at Fairyhouse last month (2m, soft to heavy), and will need to come on plenty for that in order to get involved here.
Behind Django Du Pecos, who himself was underwhelming, on their respective hurdling debuts at Fairyhouse last month. Will struggle in this company on that evidence.
Hasn't show anything of particular interest so far, either on the Flat or on three starts over hurdles. Doesn't seem capable of winning a maiden hurdle of this sort and is best watched here.
Cost €2,200 as a foal before being unsold as a yearling for a relatively cheap price. That does nothing to encourage a great deal of enthusiasm about him, especially with his generally unremarkable pedigree. Makes racecourse debut here.
Cost €39,000 as a foal and is related to some useful sorts. Plenty of speed in the pedigree as well and rates as one of the more likely newcomers.
Montjeu gelding who cost 575,000gns as a yearling and makes his racecourse debut for an exciting up and coming trainer with a top jockey booked. Definitely the most exciting newcomer and worth a market check.
Fair performer on the Flat who hasn't taken to hurdling so far and will need to take a big step forward from two tame performances on his first two starts in this sphere.
Forecasts
Kolumbus (11/10), Coeur Joyeux (7/4), Jimmy Breekie (6/1), Soul Kaliber (14/1), Frankiefiveangels (16/1), Persistent (20/1), Out Of The Loop (33/1), Sir Issac (33/1), Serefeli (40/1), Penance (66/1), Lord Erskine (66/1), Swamp Logger (66/1), Zoffanys Pride (66/1), Mr Cosmos (80/1), Arena Seven (100/1), Fair Play To You (100/1), Catch A Lucky Star (100/1), Django Du Pecos (100/1), Nameloc (100/1), All Being Well (100/1)
COEUR JOEYEUX has some of the best form on paper in this field, finishing behind the likes of Death Duty and Battleford in maidens so far this season, and if not for repeatedly facing top class opponents he would easily have won a race like this by now. He can finally get his head in front today, ahead of Kolumbus, who has finished second three times in a row now but looks talented and progressive. The well-bred and expensive Persistent is the most interesting of the newcomers.
