Started at big prices on his first three runs over hurdles, before drifting in the market and winning on his handicap debut at Doncaster (2m½f, good) last time. Up 7lb for that victory and no reason why he can't make further progress now, although a big racing weight to carry.

Dual seller winner for David Pipe and has shown nothing for current yard in three runs, the most recent being on the All Weather. Looks to be in the grip of the assessor.

Best effort yet was in a novices' contest at Newcastle last time out and connections seem to feel that his best chance of success is by going down this route. Not badly handicapped if that form is taken literally and a market check very much advised.

Justified favouritism to win twice in succession at Sedgefield and Fakenham at the end of last year but still 9lb higher than the latter after being comfortably accounted for since. Others look better handicapped for now.

Runner-up in a good ground bumper last spring and well beaten over further than this in novices' and a first-time handicap here since then. Not sure that this drop in trip looks ideal and seems best watched until sliding in the weights.

Has made the frame five times from seven rules races, though not yet got his head in front. 3lb drop since his handicap debut will help and yard in decent nick, so not ruled out is handling the forecast ground.

Scored at Uttoxeter in December (2m, soft) from 17lb lower than here but has run well fro this mark to make the frame on his last two outings. Slight concern that he wants it slower underfoot, though otherwise looks booked for another decent effort.

Still 3lb higher than when scoring on good to soft at Doncaster in January 2016 but showed signs of a return to form two starts ago when beaten just 2L from today's mark and was supported in to joint favourite before unseating early on when sporting first-time cheek pieces at Huntingdon. Interesting.

Bumper win on debut came in a two runner affair and his form since has been equally modest. Has looked as though he has been awaiting the switch to this sphere and could now show more from a workable mark over a more suitable trip. Market check advised..

9lb higher than when scoring at Catterick (1m7½f, good to soft) in January and wasn't far away from 1lb higher than today on his next start when back at that venue. Well beaten when trying again over the same C&D last time but no reason why he can't return to form.

Forecasts

Monfass (9/2), Quill Art (5/1), Manwell (5/1), G'day Aussie (11/2), Charmant (6/1), Focaccia (7/1), Mortens Leam (15/2), Our Delboy (10/1), Suggestion (16/1), Next Edition (25/1), Snowed In (33/1), Rathealy (100/1)

Verdict

Monfass has to be feared here after winning on his handicap debut and receiving a fair rise for that, while Manwell, Our Delboy and Snowed In could battle it out for the minors, but the suggestion is QUILL ART. A rare Richard Fahey-trained runner over jumps these days, he was supported as if about to win at Huntingdon last time but departed early. Compensation may await here.
