Beat a poor field at Perth last July but did so with ease. Tailed off on return from a seven month break. Trainers runners over here need to be respected, particularly at this level, but others have stronger claims. Tongue-tie fitted for first time.

Has been waiting for decent ground but has still produced some fair efforts this winter. Made all to score by 20L at Kelso last May. Steps up in trip but smart Flat form would indicate this will be fine.

Form of his victory here in December would rate him several pounds below Lycidas. Longer trip will help close that gap.
Flat and AW winner (1m to 1m2f) for Andrew Balding before moving on for 52,000 guineas at Newmarket in July 2016. Not helped by an early mistake on hurdles debut at Kelso in December 2016, and also not fluent when well beaten in a maiden hurdle here in January. Off since, and needs to show more.

Well held in all starts and tailed off when pulled up last time. Can only be watched with an eye to a future in handicaps.

Runner-up in an Irish point-to-point and subsequently bought for £45,000. Pulled hard on his debut and did not settle any better next time in the hood. May have been too relaxed last time as he lay well off the pace before chasing home a useful sort. Clearly has ability and stable have had two winners this week.

Showed some ability in bumpers and was made favourite for hurdling debut. She was staying on when losing her rider at the last and has been highly tried since. Gets the trip she needs and a useful weight allowance here. Has definite claims in a race that lacks depth.

80/1
Performed to a modest standard in Irish point-to-points. Well beaten third last time and this looks a stronger race.
9
Horse silk
80/1
Point-to-point form is nothing special. Has stamina and can be ridden from the front. Pulled up in a weaker race than this last week and up against it here.
Has an official rating on the Flat of just 60. Remains a maiden after 11 starts and best watched on hurdling debut.

Forecasts

Lycidas (5/4), Slanelough (3/1), Important Moment (7/1), Paper Roses (8/1), Pot Committed (9/1), Dance Of Fire (33/1), Picture Painter (50/1), Rock Solid (80/1), Pineapple Crush (80/1), Ruby Who (200/1)

Verdict

LYCIDAS has the best form in this and an official rating of 125 would make him the one to beat. He had Paper Roses behind when chasing home Reivers Lad at Kelso and the Whillans' mare is weighted to turn the tables here. However, on this faster ground, LYCIDAS may prove to be the stronger proposition. Slanelough hails from a yard that are going well and he does not need to improve much to be a factor.
  1. Lycidas
  2. Paper Roses
  3. Slanelough
