A C&D success was one of seven AW wins during 2015-16. Did best of the hold up horses last time in a muddling race. Handicap mark remains demanding but he is one of the more likely sorts in this.
Beat a subsequent winner at Lingfield before finding trouble when stepped up to this trip last time. All five wins have come on this surface but yet to win off a mark as high as this.
Has shown improved form over hurdles this autumn/winter and probably failed to stay when pulled up last time. Handicapped to the hilt, judged on Flat form, for his first run in almost three months. If any of that autumn progress was to be evident, then a more solid case could be argued. Stable are 2-5 over past two weeks.
Has dictated the pace on last three starts but remains unable to halt a slide in form. Tongue-tie applied after probably going off too quickly last time. Last win came over C&D off a 3lb higher mark over a year ago.
Needs to be settled behind off a strong pace. The presence of Gianstepsahead should set this up nicely for him. Ran well on first two starts here this year before finding a steady gallop against him last time. Visor fitted then is retained.
Showed fair form for Mark Johnston in 2013 and has had one run over hurdles since in 2014. Best watched here.
Winner of an amateur race over C&D in November and has been in handicapper's clutches since. Shaped well in a slowly run race last time and will now get the better gallop she needs.
Had winning form in Germany and was just denied over C&D last month. Hung under pressure last time and blinkers are tried for the first time. Stepping up in class and others make more appeal.
Forecasts
Alcatraz (9/4), Elysian Prince (9/2), Tangramm (9/2), Light Of Air (5/1), Giantstepsahead (8/1), Instant Karma (10/1), Safira Menina (12/1), Bostonian (50/1)
ALCATRAZ has produced a couple of good efforts this year that suggest he can win a race of this nature. Unlike last time, there is a more likely guarantee of a decent pace. The same applies to Safira Menina who won over the C&D in November. Of the pair ALCATRAZ looks the better handicapped. Instant Karma is interesting following his hurdling exploits this winter. The stable are in form and a market move would be significant.
- Alcatraz
- Safira Menina
- Instant Karma
