Winner of his two previous hurdles starts (both good ground) prior to finding a Grade 2 event at Sandown too hot in early December. Again ran well to chase home Charming Zen at Doncaster last time and he has to enter equations once again.

One-time Godolphin Group 2 winner on the Flat before regressing but scored on his hurdling debut at Huntingdon (2m, good). Second at Bangor next time but found a class 3 novices handicap too tough at Cheltenham last time. Less to do here and break may have rejuvenated him.
Expensive at €95,000 but no real market confidence on his debut in a Taunton bumper last month and his effort petered out rather tamely. Hard to believe he isn't capable of better but possibly best watched in the short-term as debut's over hurdles.
Dual bumper winner for Seamus Durack before shaping promisingly behind North Hill Harvey in a hot novices event on his hurdles bow at Cheltenham in December '15. Reappears for a new yard and positive market vibes would make him interesting.

Stamina-laden pedigree and was a staying on third on his debut at Worcester in October, and just nudged out by Benechenko next time at Uttoxeter on similar testing ground. No real improvement at Newbury last time but possibilities on his hurdles debut.

A pretty decent middle-distance Flat performer, having won twice and achieved a rating of 94 for James Tate. Gelded over the winter and it will be interesting to see what the market makes of him on his hurdles bow for a respected yard.
Decent middle-distance handicapper on the Flat for David Lanigan, achieving a rating in the high 80's on the back of two wins last summer. Could hardly be in better hands as he turns to his attention to hurdles and clearly short-list material.

Well beaten in Warwick bumper on debut last month, when perhaps hitting the front too soon. Wasn't unfancied for his hurdles debut at Wincanton (2m, soft) on the strength of that but could only manage sixth place behind Dreamcatching. Should build on that here.

Showed nothing to write home about in a trio of bumpers and laboured badly on her hurdles debut at Warwick in December. Glimmers of improvement when mid-division at Plumpton (2m, soft) next time but doesn't appeal as a likely winner.
Showed nothing in two bumpers way back in 2013, so it was a surprise to see her reappear after almost four years on the sidelines to make a hurdles debut a Plumpton last month. Again showed little that day and is hard to build a case for.

Lingfield bumper winner who was just touched off by Oscar Rose on her hurdles debut at Huntingdon in December (2m, good to soft). Failed to improve for a step up in trip there next time but possibilities back over a shorter trip here.
Won on the Flat for Clive Cox at Bath on firm ground in August off a mark of 67. Unable to follow up in three subsequent races and toiled badly on his hurdling debut over C&D (good to soft) In January. Best watched.

Friendless in the betting for two hurdle starts at Plumpton so far, jumping untidily and pulling up on each occasion. Impossible to build a case for on what she's shown to date.

Dual Flat winner for James Tate last year but he lost his way towards the end of the campaign and he has shown little sign of a revival on the AW for a new yard. Hard to enthuse over as he switches to hurdles.

Forecasts

Apasionado (11/4), Peggies Venture (3/1), Nicely Indeed (6/1), Trevisani (6/1), Excellent Result (8/1), Old Harry Rocks (11/1), Ruwasi (12/1), Whin Park (16/1), Casterly Rock (50/1), Totally Committed (66/1), Miss Joans (100/1), Pivotal Flame (100/1), Harvey (100/1), Indispensabelle (100/1)

Verdict

Aspionado sets the standard but he is there to be shot at with his penalties and Peggies Venture looks a viable alternative back over a shorter trip, having appeared to not quite get home over 2m4f last time. Excellent Result is another one to be interested in after a break but Paul Nicholls saddles an eyecatching hurdles newcomer in the shape of TREVISANI and it would be no great surprise if this was within his compass with fellow hurdling debutant Old Harry Rocks also interesting.
  1. Trevisani
  2. Peggies Venture
  3. Old Harry Rocks
