Hints of a revival on occasions this term but he has flattered to deceive on one to many occasions to be trusted as a likely candidate to shrug off the burden of topweight. Does win in his turn but has it to do from 1lb above his last winning mark.
Has his sights lowered to a much more realistic level than the Grade 3 he contested at Kempton last month and may be better judged on his winning effort at Wetherby shortly beforehand. He won with authority on that occasion but was clobbered with a 13lb hike as a result. Faces another tough test but has to be respected as one that can pull something out of the fire when he is in the right frame of mind.
Disappointing that he couldn't build on his Fontwell success when held from a 5lb higher mark last time out, so does have his limitations. He stays this trip well, though and its noteworthy that his victories have been punctuated by moderate efforts in between. One to keep tabs on in the betting even though he lacks consistency.
Respectable form figures but posted an erratic effort last time out and needs to prove that was just a one-off blot on his profile, which is otherwise encouraging for a race like this. He stays well, has progressed nicely over the last twelve months and should act on the ground. Being 8lb above his last winning mark is of obvious concern, though.
Needs to conclusively prove his stamina over this trip and also has a bit to find with Rear Admiral after their recent encounter over 2m5f at this course. He can also take a few liberties at his obstacles, so it will be interesting to see if the first-time cheekpieces can initiate the requisite improvement.
Came with a late rattle to seal the honours in a similar race last time out; and has a solid chance of going close again from just a 3lb higher mark. However, he also has the best part of another half mile to tackle so his ability to cope over the extra distance is the stumbling block. Comes a long way for this mind, and his shrewd connections are not noted for many wasted journeys.

This is likely to be a very tactical little event and while the likes of Fingerontheswitch and Adam du Breteau are respected and likely to be thereabouts if they run up to the best of their respective abilities, it's interesting to note that REAR ADMIRAL is back over a three-mile trip. He had no trouble with the distance as a youngster and won a point-to-point over 3m without too much fuss. Mick Easterby's gelding won well last time out and, from just a 3lb higher mark, he has a live chance of reeling them in once again. Beeves has a stiff test in giving weight away all round but is nearing an attractive mark and is also one to keep tabs on.
