Freshened up by a short break but was tailed off in each of his last two visits to a racecourse and will need everything to go his way if he is going to ensure the sequence doesn't extend to three on the bounce. Others preferred.

Solid, if unspectacular form during his time with Paul Nicholls but put the record straight wehn getting off the mark at Musselburgh last time out. Needs to keep on improving and a 7lb higher mark does mean he needs to take things to another level. However, his yard is in good form just now and this may be a good bit of placement to at least pick up some further place money.

Bolted up at Sedgefield earlier in the week and may will find him hard to oppose if the market suggests he is in the same frame of mind. This lacks strength-in-depth, so his 7lb penalty may not be too much of an issue in this company.

Improved for the switch in codes and got off the mark in good style over C&D in January. Held last time out in a fillies only event at Ludlow, but still still open to improvement and is respected on her handicap debut over hurdles.

Form seems to have hit the buffers of late; the handicapper has given him a chance as a result. Recent efforts have done little to suggest his turn is just around the corner, though.

Crept up the ratings after a brace of successes earlier in the campaign (the latter of the two was a good effort over C&D back in December). Faces a tough test from an 11lb higher mark this time around and has a bit to prove after falling below expectations at Musselburgh at the start of this month.

Won on the AW on his debut for his current yard last November but it's been quite a while since he shone on over hurdles. He has been dropped considerably in the weights but it's worth bearing in mind that it is over three years since he was successful over hurdles and he lacks the scope held by a few of the rest.

Was modest on the Flat but is much better now there are obstacles in the way; won off a mark of 113 at Catterick last month and was far from disgraced off the same rating at Huntingdon recently. Left alone by the assessor, the gelding has a sound chance of extending his run of good form over hurdles and has definite place claims once more.

Gin And Tonic89
Age: 7|  Weight: 10-2| J: J M Quinlan| T: M Wigham| OR:  101

Won over C&D a year ago but has been well below that form subsequently. Back on the same mark, so has a feasible chance of bouncing back to form. However, he was no match for G'day Aussie when they encountered each other recently, so looks to face a tough task this time around.

Forecasts

Whispering Storm (3/1), Highland Fling (7/2), Star Foot (7/2), Walsingham Grange (6/1), G'day Aussie (9/1), Iconic Sky (12/1), Regulation (14/1), Gin And Tonic (20/1), Hallings Comet (20/1)

Verdict

Noteworthy that Highland Fling turns out quickly under a penalty and is sure to give a good account of himself if he can muster anything like the resilience and enthusiasm he showed at Sedgefield the other day. However, WHISPERING STORM is also going the right way and, as he has scope for a touch more improvement, he gets the nod in a tough one to call. Walshingham Grange and Iconic Sky are others who have yet to fulfil their potential and are also worth bearing in mind to make the frame at least.
  1. Whispering Storm
  2. Highland Fling
  3. G'day Aussie
