Was good enough to win an Ascot handicap hurdle of 127 three years ago and was still running well from similar marks last season. Not sure he is ideally suited by the extra half mile of this race, though he has been sliding in the weights and may have the class to go close.

Sports cheek pieces for the first time here, though they would have to have a dramatic effect on what he has been producing in recent outings. Tailed off from 5lb higher on his first handicap outing and looks best watched.

Goes into this on a 5lb higher mark than his sole hurdling win, which came here over C&D last May. Has run creditably in defeat on several occasions this winter and crashed out at the first last time. Could run well once again without getting his nose in front.

Had shown the odd glimmer of form this year before she came good at Wincanton last week and now looks to build on that. Has a 7lb penalty to contend with, but front pair were 6L clear that day and should again give a good account.

Has shown nothing in bumpers or over hurdles so far and is struggling to convince that he has a career ahead of him. Very much one to watch at present.

Struggled to make her mark in novices' company but after a sizeable drop in the weights she made the frame at Exeter (2m1f, good to soft) last time. Races from the same mark here and you wouldn't rule her out of picking up some prize money.

3lb drop since her last run won't do any harm, though she was beaten a country mile into third on that Towcester debut. Sole point-to-point win was on good ground, though some cut apparently holds no fears. Not easy to fancy.

Thefriendlygremlin44
Age: 9|  Weight: 10-0| J: M Hamill| T: Tracey Leeson| OR:  69

2lb lower than when scoring at Uttoxeter a couple of years ago, but barren thereafter. Shown nothing over either hurdles or fences of later and impossible to recommend.

Forecasts

Daytime Ahead (15/8), Leviathan (4/1), Goodnight Charlie (9/2), Etheridge Annie (9/2), Distant Sound (7/1), City Never Sleeps (16/1), Thefriendlygremlin (66/1), Norse Da (66/1)

Verdict

A poor contest where LEVIATHAN can take advantage of a sliding mark and get his nose in front. Venetia Williams has her string in good form that this gelding may be able to putclass his rivals. Daytime Ahead woke up last time and would not be a surprise winner, though he is inconsistent, while Distant Sound should be up to making the frame.
  1. Leviathan
  2. Daytime Ahead
  3. Distant Sound
