C&D winner who is yet to run a bad race at this track in five starts on Tapeta, (1,4,3,2,2) and returned from a three month break going down by just a neck to stablemate Ambitious Icarus earlier this month. Still competitive off this elevated mark (65) and a major player.

Out of action since her juvenile campaign, and last seen on a racecourse in October 2015. Has left Karl Burke, and now with a new trainer (former Champion Jockey booked to ride), drops into this grade (and to 5F for the first time) on the back of a sole start in a nursery.

Ex William Muir, and joined this trainer for 12,000 gns in October 2016. Appears to have taken a couple of runs to come good in 2017, but was only ½L behind Horsforth (same terms) over C&D last time, with his sole win for his previous trainer coming from a 3lb higher mark (68).

Placed with regularity in AW maidens (including over C&D in a weak race in December 2016) before getting off the mark by a short head at the seventh attempt at Wolverhampton in February (6F). Upped 4lb to a mark of 64, and drops back to the minimum trip tonight at this stiffer track.

Heavily backed and primed to strike from a good mark (58) when bolting up by 2L over C&D in early November. Seemingly not beaten by the 6lb higher mark next time in a race not run to suit from the worst of the draw. Again unlucky in that respect on this awaited return to action, and certainly not without a chance.

Rewarded for a string of consistent AW efforts when running out a head winner from Spiraea over C&D on Valentines Day (Class 6, with subsequent Dundalk winner Ken's Sams seventh). Whilst this is the same grade, this looks a stronger race, and he has a 4lb rise to defy, but impossible to write off given he finished in front of both Windforpower and Jess previously.

Age: 7|  Weight: 9-6| J: B A Curtis| T: Miss Tracy Waggott| OR:  59
4/1
Admirable 12 time winner who finished a head second to Sea Of Green from a 1lb higher mark over C&D last weekend. Generally runs his race at this track (C&D winner in January), but seemingly held by Indian Pursuit, Horsforth and Entertaining Ben on previous recent course clashes.

Has only beaten two horses home on her last four starts (all at this track), so the evidence strongly suggests this isn't her favourite place. Tough to fancy despite the first time visor under an inexperienced 7lb claimer with a mountain to climb with Indian Pursuit based upon their Valentines Day clash.

Not won since 2015 and losing streak now stands at 22 but the yard's horses haven't been right over the past 12 months, but are now slowly improving. A mark of 55 represents a career low, but in finishing fifth to Ambitious Icarus over C&D last time, Horsforth, Entertaining Ben and Windforpower were all unfortunately in front of him and renew battle tonight.

Forecasts

Horsforth (3/1), Windforpower (4/1), Indian Pursuit (9/2), Poetic Queen (6/1), Entertaining Ben (7/1), Groundworker (12/1), Socialites Red (20/1), Jess (25/1), Tabikat Elle (33/1)

Verdict

Groundworker makes a much awaited return to action, and would have been the selection but for being delivered another rough hand with the draw, however, he's certainly capable of winning from this mark and is one to watch with regards the future. Entertaining Ben seems to be coming to hand for his new trainer Iain Jardine and is likely to give previous conquerer HORSFORTH plenty to think about tonight. However, the top-weighted Richard Guest trained five-year-old mare seems to love this track, and despite an elevated mark of 65 can be taken to build upon her pleasing return to action behind stablemate Ambitious Icarus and record another Newcastle success.
  1. Horsforth
  2. Entertaining Ben
  3. Indian Pursuit
