Age: 6|  Weight: 12-2| J: S Corby(3)| T: N P Mulholland| OR:  102
7/4
Carries 7lb extra fro her recent exertions but went close under similar terms at Market Rasen last time out, so has to merit respects whilst she is in such good heart. This is a modest fare so likely to be involved in the thick of the action once more.

Age: 6|  Weight: 12-0| J: Bridget Andrews(3)| T: D Skelton| OR:  107

Well held in handicaps after winning a couple of novices' events. Also has a bit to prove regarding her stamina over this trip.

Nightfly70
Age: 6|  Weight: 11-12| J: Andrew Tinkler| T: C E Longsdon| OR:  105
11/2
Missed a couple of entries recently but has been found a weak opening in which to step into handicap company. The stable is struggling for winners of late but, with trip and ground to suit, this is a decent opening and a chance to put the record straight. One for the shortlist.

Marvellous Monty49
Age: 7|  Weight: 11-12| J: James Best| T: J Farrelly| OR:  105
11/2
Cut a little slack after a below par effort last time out; and has a sound chance of bouncing back on these terms. Still she needs to up her game from the effort she posted at Ludlow, so does have a bit to prove; but a 3lb lower mark bolsters her claims; and she would be dangerous to underestimate.

Troubled Soult96
Age: 8|  Weight: 11-10| J: Conor Shoemark| T: F O'Brien| OR:  103
10/1
Failed to cope with the undulations of Cheltenham for some reason last time out; possible that was just a blip, as she had previously looked like she was turning the corner for her new yard. Also been given a chance at the weights. Shortlisted.

Madame Lafitep125
Age: 5|  Weight: 11-6| J: Harry Bannister(3)| T: J G Portman| OR:  99
25/1
A 14-race maiden under both codes of racing, she has become hard to predict. It's also off-putting that she folded very tamely in a similar race at Wincanton last month and is hard to fancy on that evidence.

Pretty Rose111
Age: 7|  Weight: 11-5| J: Max Kendrick(7)| T: B I Case| OR:  98

Been away from the action for a little while but last season's form looks solid enough in the context of this race. Can make the running but her only previous success came when she was held up on the back of a strong pace. The mare has a little to prove with Marvellous Monty on the bits of form that tie them together, but can be considered as a contender in a race like this.

My Cousin Rachelt99
Age: 6|  Weight: 11-4| J: M Hamill(5)| T: K Bailey & M Nicholls| OR:  97
14/1
Struggling to find her level just at the moment but might improve for the step up in trip. Needs to do so though, as the form in the book is only modest. The form of her yard is a plus point, though.

Highland Lifet51
Age: 7|  Weight: 11-3| J: David Noonan(3)| T: S Flook| OR:  96
9/1
Made the most of a lenient mark to score at Bangor in January - the form was boosted earlier this week; so she has to be respected. Drying ground would be a concern but her 12ilb higher mark is more of a worry on this occasion. The seven-year-old looks harshly treated by the rise in the weights and will need everything to go her way.

Forecasts

Meribel Millie (7/4), Marvellous Monty (11/2), Nightfly (11/2), Highland Life (9/1), Al Reesha (9/1), Troubled Soul (10/1), Pretty Rose (14/1), My Cousin Rachel (14/1), Madame Lafite (25/1)

Verdict

A tough one to call, as the likes of Highland Life and Troubled Soul have sound claims for a race of this nature. However, a chance is taken with MARVELLOUS MONTY, who is better than she showed last time out and has a chance to prove herself in this slightly weaker looking event. Nightfly also appeals as an improving individual and she may well thrive for the stepping into handicap company.
  1. Marvellous Monty
  2. Nightfly
  3. Highland Life
