No stranger to the runner-up berth having finished second on three of his last four starts in Class 6 handicaps. Steadily rising in the weights, so perhaps the catalyst for this switch to a weak maiden, but whilst we know that he's effective over this C&D (runner up to Thello in December 2016), others are preferred.
Has progressed in each of his two subsequent AW runs since finishing third to Adalene in a C&D maiden in December 2016. Both of those races came over further (1m4f) at Kempton, and given his run style it's surprising to see him dropped back in trip, but this is a weak and winnable maiden, and he wears the first time cheek-pieces.
Tailed off on bumper debut at Wetherby early last month, and achieved little dropped back to 7f when third of four in a desperate Wolverhampton maiden later in February. Up in trip, but seemingly holds little chance.
2,500 gns purchase at Newmarket last month and a half-brother to a couple of winners, but showed little in two runs on synthetics for previous trainer Roger Charlton (one race a Lingfield bumper), but can probably do better with time for this yard.
Makes her Flat debut having already been a winner of a bumper at Sedgefield in September 2016 (2m good). Appeared to have plenty of stamina, and difficult to translate that form, but a surprise if she doesn't find a few too sharp here.
First foal Bahri mare out of Silvan Stream who makes a belated racecourse appearance. Plenty of stamina in her pedigree, but best watched with her stable also saddling Absolute Angel.
Flat debutant who has struggled in two starts in soft ground bumpers this winter, so very hard to see her involved at this level.
Unable to convert a similar winning opportunity in a Wolverhampton maiden last month, but her previous C&D handicap second to Energia Fox is strong form in the context of this race, but whilst running consistently since her return in 2017, you can't help but wonder if she really wants to put her head in front.
Forecasts
Bridey's Lettuce (13/8), On Fire (2/1), Ms Gillard (3/1), Tambour (10/1), Absolute Angel (20/1), Slaying The Dragon (28/1), Dan's Hopeforglory (33/1), Heavenly Gait (100/1)
Ms Gillard boasts one standout piece of C&D form which ought to see her capable of taking this race with ease, but on the whole you can't quite help but wonder about her winning mentality. In truth this is a truly desperate maiden in which the likes of Class 6 handicap regular Bridey's Lettuce and Sedgefield bumper winner Absolute Angel can't be comfortably ruled out. Despite some concerns about dropping back in trip, ON FIRE gets the vote for Middleham Moor trainer James Bethell who sports a healthy 9 from 34 (26%) record here on Tapeta.
1. On Fire
2. Ms Gillard
3. Bridey's Lettuce
