Inconsistent performer who had a good day at Fontwell in December, winning a similar contest from a 5lb lower mark (good ground). Stayed on well enough in testing conditions to make the frame last time and entitled to respect here if putting his best hoof forward.
0-12 career profile, with seven of those starts for his back-in-form trainer, for whom he has finished in the frame on his last three runs. The most recent of those was on his chase debut at Carlisle last time (soft) and no surprise is he can build on that today from what should be a workable mark.
Enjoyed a couple of hurdles wins but is 0-6 over fences. Plummeting in the weights as a result and down another 5lb since his last run. Yard has been going well and despite his poor looking form, if there is support for him today it could be significant.
Huntingdon handicap chase winner (good to soft) in January, though an 8lb rise for that plus heavy ground found him out next time and a further 9lb rise gave him no chance last time. Looks held for the time being.
Won a Huntingdon handicap hurdle off a lowly mark of 69 in November, though has run well on both chase starts, including from today's pitch at Catterick last time when stepped up to this trip (soft). A reproduction of that would make him a leading contender.
3lb better off with The Chuckmeister for finishing a short head behind him at Uttoxeter last month and not out of this, though a 1-21 CV does not have him screaming winner.
Forecasts
Celtic Tune (5/2), Cleve Cottage (4/1), Tommy The Rascal (9/2), The Chuckmeister (9/2), Ashford Wood (5/1), The Jugopolist (11/1), Mr Witmore (25/1)
Today could be the day to catch TOMMY THE RASCAL, who has run to decent races in defeat just lately and showed at Catterick last time that this could be his trip. Keep an eye on the market where Ashford Wood and Cleve Cottage are concerned, while Celtic Tune should be in the shake-up for the frame.
1. Tommy The Rascal
2. Celtic Tune
3. Ashford Wood
