Rated 4lb higher over hurdles than fences and has certainly shown his best form over the smaller obstacles, his third on his penultimate start at Haydock being his best showing of late. That run has been bookended by two attempts over fences, the first at Uttoxeter (without headgear) didn't show him in a good light although the race itself has worked out well (produced six next time out winners). Again showed little on his last chase start at Newcastle (jumped well enough) but showed little when asked for a response and finished well beaten.

Never managed to win in bumpers or over hurdles and was pulled-up on his chasing debut in November at Ayr when he never had a cut at his fences. That form was left behind in first-time cheekpieces at Musselburgh when the 3m trip appeared to suit him. However consistency has never been his strongpoint and he reverted to type last time out at Bangor on softer ground finishing well beaten after never travelling with any fluency. Still 7lb above that last winning mark and running in testing conditions with first-time blinkers on now; still has questions to answer over fences.

Wining point-to-pointer having scored on his last start in that sphere in Ireland winning by 20 lengths making all to win a maiden having started favourite. Went off favourite on sole bumper start at Carlisle when finishing runner-up (beaten by main market rival) in early 2016. Three hurdles runs since then (fell on debut) the best of which came after a break on his penultimate start at Southwell. Didn't quite match that form next time out at Exeter and makes the switch to fences in a handicap for the first time with cheekpieces added.

Lightly-raced sort who has yet to win under Rules (0/7) and shown very little of late finishing pulled-up and last. Switched to fences here off his lowest handicap mark yet but much more needed to make an impression.

Managed one win from ten starts over hurdles off a lowly mark of 89 and placed off higher marks after that in handicap hurdles. Switched to chasing and had three runs in this sphere so far with her best effort coming on debut at Market Rasen when the outsider of the quintet. Has run two races since when she has looked less than straightforward at Market Rasen and Kelso and her jumping also looks as though it needs more care.

Half-sister to a winning pointer but took five attempts to get off the mark in point-to-points finally doing so in mares' maiden at Hereford last May. Showed very little over hurdles and had a tough start to life over fences at 2m3f here in late January. Had little chance at the weights there and lowly handicaps will suit her much better but 3lb out of the handicap today.

Forecasts

Powerful Symbol (9/4), Batavir (3/1), Milly Baloo (7/2), Rolling Thunder (9/2), Sweet Belle (12/1), North Country Boy (25/1)

Verdict

A chance is taken on POWERFUL SYMBOL who goes chasing on his handicap debut Given his point-to-point form he may well be able to show his worth here more than he did over hurdles. Batavir would have been the best of these over hurdles but his chasing efforts so far have looked questionable. Rolling Thunder has won over fences but is very inconsistent and the blinkers may be needed to help him concentrate fully. 1. Powerful Symbol 2. Rolling Thunder 3. Batavir
