Twice a runner up over this trip in Ireland (a handicap and a fillies maiden) on turf last backend, and possibly found 1m4f beyond her at Lingfield on her stable debut last month when finishing fifth of seven to Enmeshing. Interesting runner for an infrequent visitor to Newcastle (saddles first AW runners today).

Both career successes so far came in Brazil, and is an eight race AW maiden for trainers Marco Botti and Richard Fahey. Has raced over further of late, and drops back to this trip for the first time since August 2015. Declining mark of 77.

Sole career success in ten starts was over this trip on her debut at Newbury in April 2015. Absent since June 2016 when finishing fifth of 12 in a Class 4 handicap here over 1m4f, and drops back in trip today from a reduced mark of 77 with Oisin Murphy taking over in the saddle.

Back to back winner in Ireland for James M Barrett over 1m4f on turf in August and September of 2016, finishing her Irish career from a mark of 79. Ran a peculiar race (in snatches) on stable debut at Wolverhampton last month, but could do better over this slightly longer trip on a more galloping track, but likely to need even further to be seen at her best.

Thirteen race maiden, but a consistent sort who was second at this track (for Charles Hills) over a mile to Totally Magic in October 2016. Bumped into a useful rival when second on stable debut at Wolverhampton in early January, and has raced over 1m4f the past twice, with this drop back in trip looking more suitable.

Showed signs of ability for her previous trainer David Lanigan, and was beaten just over a length on her Tapeta debut in a nine furlong handicap at Wolverhampton in August 2016 (from a 1lb higher mark). Whilst the jury is still out as to whether she truly stays this trip, she's an interesting runner for a stable known to improve horses, having been purchased for 14,000 Guineas at the Newmarket December 2016 sales.

Won over 1m at this track from a mark of 56 in November, and whilst running consistently since from marks in the low to mid 60's has appeared held by the handicapper. Tackles this ten furlong trip for the first time since August 2016 (kept on same pace when fourth of seven to L'Apogee at Beverley).

Rated 62, and finished third in a C&D maiden to Diamond Kut early last month. That was only her sixth career start, and her first for over four months, so she could still show further improvement, but on balance, you'd say that she certainly needs to in order to be involved.

Forecasts

Energia Fox (5/2), Victoria Pollard (9/2), Green Or Black (5/1), Heartstone (5/1), Taurian (5/1), Tenerezza (6/1), Lozah (9/1), Ms Gillard (12/1), Melanna (50/1)

Verdict

A fillies handicap in which none of the nine declared runners make any significant appeal, but there has to be a winner, so despite some question marks about this trip, the tentative vote goes to TENEREZZA. She has shown signs of ability for David Lanigan (including on Tapeta at Wolverhampton), and Iain Jardine is a shrewd operator who wouldn't have spent 14,000 Guineas on this filly if he couldn't yield a quick return, so she's taken to get the better of the returning Victoria Pollard who takes a drop in grade here in this Class 5 handicap. 1. Tenerezza 2. Victoria Pollard 3. Energia Fox
