Last seen beaten six and a half lengths in the Grade One Challow at Newbury (2m 5f, good to soft) and his form behind Wholestone (beaten one length off level weights) at Cheltenham earlier in the campaign now reads very well. Only appearance in a handicap to date culminated in victory and he will be tough to beat despite top weight.
Up 8lb for a staying-on Carlisle win last time (2m 1f, soft) where the front pair were 11 lengths clear of the remainder. That was this veteran's first start over hurdles for some time and if he can reproduce that sort of form then he wouldn't be far away.
Sole success came in a Navan maiden hurdle (heavy) a couple of years ago. Still lightly-raced and may be able to improve now after just one start for current yard. Check for market vibes.
Handicapper had him pegged at 132 after a heavy ground Market Rasen novices' win this time last year, but that has proved to be too taxing in handicaps since. Hard to enthuse about his chance here on recent evidence.
Optimum conditions appear to be good to soft for this bumper and hurdles winner at up to 2m 4f. Same mark here as when comfortably accounted for at Hereford last time, though may be able to improve for this first try at 3m.
Stays 1m 4f on the Flat and 2m 4f over hurdles, though last success in this sphere was four years ago. No problem with conditions, though is this is run at a true gallop then his stamina will be put under scrutiny.
No win for three years and now on an attractive mark if he retains any of his old ability. Best when conditions are bottomless.
All his winning form has been on fast ground and hard to enthuse about his chances here on recent evidence.
Forecasts
Ami Desbois (15/8), Point The Way (11/4), Milborough (13/2), Westendorf (13/2), Sam Red (8/1), Only Orsenfoolsies (20/1), Waterclock (20/1), Kayf Moss (25/1)
A few of these have been asked serious questions by the assessor and the one most likely to have the answers is AMI DESBOIS, who is the class horse in the field and is taken to prove that. Milborough could go close if still able to reproduce a super effort last time at his ripe old age, while Sam Red looks a likely improver and could make the frame.
1. Ami Desbois
2. Sam Red
3. Milborough
