All four career wins have been at Musselburgh over 3m and while one of them was on soft ground, he does appear to go best on a sound surface. Now 6lb higher than his December win there and beaten off this mark last time. Has also been well beaten on two previous starts here.

Won over 3m as a hurdler two years ago, with his three subsequent successes being over 2m 4f. Relishes cut in the ground and just eased a few pounds by the handicapper so could be very competitive.

Has won four times at around 2m 4f and has never totally convinced when stepped up beyond 3m. A bit long in the tooth to be improving and taken on again today.

Point-to-point winner who almost broke his duck under rules at Doncaster (3m 2f, good to soft) in November, though was thrashed from today's mark last time. Frame claims at best.

The only time he managed to get his nose in front he was disqualified at Market Rasen last spring and went closest to making up for that at Wetherby on Boxing Day in first-time cheek pieces. Blinkers now applied instead and a 3lb rise to cope with, but this extra furlong or so is probably a positive and he should be right in the mix.

0-20 under rules and has shown nothing for so long on the racecourse that he is readily taken on here.

Heavy ground Southwell winner in March over 3m and now 6lb lower after a string of hefty defeats. Can't rule out a return to form although would like to have seen more from the yard of late.

Won a very ordinary Huntingdon hurdle in November off 69, though was clearly on the verge of progress and is now up to 82 in the ratings after finishing runner-up at Leciester (2m 4f, good) last month. Return to this sort of trip over fences may elicit further gains, so probably worth short-listing.

Forecasts

Inchcolm (9/4), Black Narcissus (4/1), Tommy The Rascal (5/1), Lakefield Rebel (11/2), Proud Gamble (13/2), Lord Landen (9/1), Foot The Bill (18/1), Dystonia's Revenge (25/1), Valentino's Choice (66/1)

Verdict

INCHCOLM's connections were frustrated when he was disqualified at Market Rasen last year and he can finally gain compensation today, with first-time blinkers and his longest trip yet both taken as positives. Black Narcissus should be competitive back over a staying trip and from the foot of the racecard Tommy The Rascal is not ruled out. 1. Inchcolm 2. Black Narcissus 3. Tommy The Rascal
