Really consistent performer in this grade who enjoyed a purple patch in the early part of last year. Very likely to give his running once again, though from his current mark he may be chasing place prize money.
Won an Exeter hunter chase in May and has gone well twice so far this winter, landing a Wincanton novices' handicap chase last time over 3m 1f. Up 5lb for that success, but given his upwardly mobile profile he may be capable of defying that on ground that suits.
Yet to win in seven attempts under rules and nothing that he showed on his chasing debut at Uttoxeter last time suggests that today will be the day that he breaks that duck.
Relishes testing ground and trips from around 2m 4f to today's. Won a Warwick handicap chase from a 3lb lower mark last month, though well beaten from today's pitch since then. However, can be an in and out performer, so a revival in fortunes is not ruled out.
Chasing a hat-trick after success at Southwell over three miles on each of his last two starts. Now 13lb higher than when winning the first of those but still had seven lengths to spare over the third last time and entitled to be short-list material again.
Well beaten in a couple of chases last spring and subsequently successful when switched back to pointing on fast ground last time. Likely to need a fair bit more than that today.
Has failed to complete in three attempts since finishing runner-up here in a C&D novices' handicap chase in December 2015 and hard to recommend until confidence is restored for both horse and punter alike.
Starts this race from 2lb below his last winning hurdles mark, so given a chance by the handicapper, though his chase form to date suggests that he may need a further slide before winning again.

Forecasts
Monderon (4/1), The Wexfordian (4/1), Sonoftheking (9/2), Global Dream (5/1), Fly Home Harry (6/1), Midnight Jade (7/1), Crown Hill (7/1), Arquebusier (8/1), Nobel Leader (10/1), Danvinnie (12/1), Running Wolf (14/1)
A moderate contest though some of these do at least hold their form pretty well for the grade and SONOFTHEKING might just be good enough to complete a hat-trick before the assessor takes his measure. Global Dream is likely to produce his usual sound effort and will be competitive, while Arquebusier and Midnight Jade both have claims.
