Has a good record for win and place money from his overall profile. Was a tad below par last time though, and needs to post a more determined effort; so comes here with a bit to prove.

Something amiss in his last two outings and, given that he has fallen short of the mark when tried at this level in the past; he looks one to be wary of just now. On the plus side: he does act on the ground and is a solid performer at the trip when he is on song.

Jarry D'honneur20
Age: 8|  Weight: 11-1| J: Mark Walsh| T: W P Mullins| OR:  139
6/1
Latest start left something to be desired and certainly needs to be faster at his fences. It's disconcerting that he missed most of last year through injury, as he had previously looked progressive. He wouldn't want the ground too soft but, given his connections, he is still one to keep tabs on just for now.

A consistent and reliable performer who deserves a change of fortune. However, the handicapper doesn't see if that way and he has still crept up the weights without winning. Faces a stiff test but can be expected to give his all and it would be no surprise to see him make the frame.

Draycott Placet28
Age: 8|  Weight: 10-13| J: Danny Mullins| T: J P Ryan| OR:  137
16/1
Holds a patchy record of late but does win in his turn. He does need to improve significantly as this season's form over timber has been modest. However, he is a better chaser than hurdler and, as Danny Mullins gets on particularly well with the gelding, he could be one of the surprise packages of the race. Watch the betting for clues.

Ball D'Arc20
Age: 6|  Weight: 10-9| J: Jack Kennedy| T: G Elliott| OR:  133

Finished in behind Dysios last time out and, given that they meet on the same terms; he has work to do in revering that form. He does like to race prominently, which can leave him vulnerable if this becomes a war of attrition. Worth noting that he was well backed last time out so the market will give a good pointer towards expectations of compensation this time up.

Has been tried over a variety of distances but this would appear to be his optimum trip. Was an easy winner here on his penultimate start but was then easily brushed aside in a better race last time out. A similar effort will not be good enough in a competitive event like this.

Has form with a few of these but most notably needs to reverse the stats with Draycott Place if he is going to play a hand. There were six lengths between them when they last met and, on the same terms, it would be a risky to bet on a different outcome. He has won only once from 14 starts over fences but has a good completion record so it is feasible that he can capitalise if other underperform and things go his way.

Guitar Petet,v19
Age: 7|  Weight: 10-5| J: R Loughran| T: M S Sandra Hughes| OR:  129

Has not enjoyed a fruitful campaign so far and is in danger of losing his way. The pick of his past form gives him a shout but recent evidence leaves a bit to be desired.

Leap Dearg43
Age: 9|  Weight: 10-4| J: Paul Townend| T: J Nash| OR:  128

Has a bit to find with a few of today's opponents and, while respected on his overall profile, he just drops off the radar when it comes to win only purposes.

Age: 10|  Weight: 10-3| J: Sean Flanagan| T: G Elliott| OR:  125

Mixed chasing and hurdles with an enduring lack of success stretching back mid-2014. His latest efforts over fences have been uninspiring and he looks one to leave alone for betting purposes just for the time being.

Was hampered at a crucial time when he was behind Dysios and Ball D'Arc Leopardstown's Christmas meeting and, while it is a stab in the dark to suggest he may have got closer with a less troubled passage, he is usually a sound jumper and is overdue a change of fortune. That said, he is also up against it on official ratings and faces a stern examination from out of the weights.

No match for People's Park here last time and the way he faded on the run for the line was hardly a pointer towards better things to come. It will take a mammoth effort from him to even get close to whoever wins today.

Forecasts

Ball D'Arc (3/1), Peoples Park (11/2), Pairofbrowneyes (6/1), Jarry D'honneur (6/1), Baltimore Rock (7/1), Ttebbob (8/1), Days Hotel (10/1), Draycott Place (16/1), Dysios (16/1), Guitar Pete (20/1), Leap Dearg (20/1), Caolaneoin (25/1), Turn Over Sivola (25/1), Mister Hotelier (33/1)

Verdict

A competitive Grade A chase, as you would expect for the prize money on offer; and there is not much between those expected to take a hand in the finish. Dysios is consistent and is a fair option for an each-way punt, while Pairofbrowneyes and Ball D’arc also come into the reckoning as likely contenders under the framing of the race. However, DRAYCOTT PLACE has always been a more profitable horse to follow when he is sent over fences rather than hurdles and catches the eye for a more adventurous option. 1. Draycott Place 2. Pairofbrowneyes 3. Ball D'arc
