Eight-year-old who is a winner of 14 races (eight on the AW), and carries a 6lb penalty for a neck success in a similar race at Wolverhampton on Saturday. Talented claimer takes over in the saddle.
Maiden after eight starts and last of fourteen on return from a short break here (7f) late last month. Needs to show much more, and up markedly in trip.
Acquired from Kevin Frost during the summer and showed more for new trainer, notably when runner up off this mark three starts back. Not so good last time at Southwell (with eight of nine career starts coming at Wolverhampton).
Trainer has done well with similar types here this winter, but yet to find the key to this horse on the AW despite having tried a wide variety of trips. Ten furlong winner on turf at Ayr in August off this mark.
Moved from Mark Walford, and returned from 13 months off when eight of 14 here over a mile in November. Trip may help but others more likely contenders.
First run since November 2015, and debut for this yard. Formerly with Alan Berry and shown little aptitude for racing on synthetics.
Veteran maiden in 33 starts, and mixed hurdling with the Flat, and whilst this is much more realistic than the maidens he contested here this autumn, still has very little chance.
Continues to plummet in the handicap and did win over further on tapeta at Wolverhampton way back in March 2015 (off 66). However, he's totally lost his way over the past 15 months, but this is a dire contest so not readily discounted.
Maiden after 19 starts, and heads back up in trip after not being far off the placings the last twice. Fifth placed effort over a mile here recently has worked out well, and his jockey rides Newcastle well.
Ex Irish (unraced), but steadily regressed over a couple of seasons for this yard, but does at least have a victory on tapeta to his name, coming off a 1lb higher mark over just in excess of a mile in March 2015.
Winner for this yard at Chepstow in August 2015, and gone close to scoring again a couple of times last year, including when headed on the line at Brighton. Appears to have a greater will than most of these and run adequately here in the past.
Maiden after 32 starts and not run since finishing third at Brighton in October. Has raced on Tapeta before, but not here at Newcastle.
Trainer has an exemplary record on this surface, and a talented rider has been booked. A fair fourth in a similar Class 7 at Chelmsford just before Christmas (Outlaw Torn second), but not so effective over further at Wolverhampton last weekend.
Huge odds in five starts in maidens for Geoff Harker (debut) and thereafter David Loughnane. With Roger Fell now holding the license returns at the bottom of the handicap pyramid after seven month break.
Forecasts
Spirit Of The Vale (5/1), Outlaw Torn (5/1), Lord Rob (6/1), Highway Robber (13/2), Moccasin (13/2), Thatsthewaytodoit (7/1), Tenhoo (10/1), Stanlow (16/1), Troy Boy (25/1), Patron of Explores (33/1), Southview Lady (33/1), First Of Never (33/1), The Big Day (33/1), Don't Tell Nik (50/1)
The first ever Class 7 contest to be run on Tapeta at Newcastle, and most predictably it's a pretty desperate race. Many of these horses are (and will remain) maidens, so that helps to narrow down the field. The admirable Outlaw Torn is given respect with his 6lb penalty negated by a most talented claimer in Lewis Edmunds, and wherever he finishes Spirit of The Vale should be thereabouts with Oliver Greenall prolific here on tapeta. Moccasin is on a good mark and Highway Robber should be noted for any market support, but STANLOW is just the tentative selection. He's done well at a modest level on turf and in twice finishing fifth here over shorter this winter has suggested he's worth trying at this trip on this track.
1. Stanlow
2. Spirit Of The Vale
3. Outlaw Torn
