Failed to win in 13 starts on the Flat but ran better than anticipated on hurdles bow at Catterick, finishing third at 50/1. Might improve again for the experience and one of the more likely contenders.
Trainer has an excellent 36% winning strike rate at this track so has to be respected on that alone. Won a modest 1m 2f handicap on the Flat at Bath last summer and could do better over timber. Worth noting any market moves on hurdles bow.
Regressive on Flat over staying distances but signs of ability over hurdles and was not disgraced here last time out. Needs to imporve again though.
Narrowly beaten on A/W at Lingfield in November before a decent hurdles debut when runner-up at Fontwell 11 days ago. A similar effort would give him a leading chance in this seemingly modest affair.
Bred to be half decent but showed nothing in two starts for John Gosden and well beaten in all three outing on Flat and jumps for new connections. Massive improvement needed today.
Has show ability at up to a mile on the Flat and is lighlty raced, so could be open to any amount of improvement on hurdles bow today. Fitness an unknown factor though, and has to prove he'll stay this much longer distance.
Failed to progress from two to three years on Flat for previous connections and joined current yard last month. Looked in need of the outing on hurdles debut at Wolverhampton recently but may be type to do better over hurdles for his shrewd handler.
Tailed off on hurdles debut at Catterick having shown very little ability in four outings on the Flat. Hard to see her figuring today.
Forecasts
Dusty Raven (2/1), Bob's Boy (2/1), Gregarious (9/2), Allfredandnobell (5/1), Calarules (16/1), Mr Globetrotter (25/1), My Brown Eyed Girl (200/1), Foible (200/1)
DUSTY RAVEN showed enough on his first start over hurdles at Fontwell on Boxing Day to suggest he is up to winning a race such as this, assuming he is fully recovered from his exertions. If Gregarious has learned to settle he may prove half decent over Jumps, while Mr Globetrotter, a disappontment on the Flat, is another whose future could lie at the winter game and he is definitely in the right hands to succeed.
1. Dusty Raven
2. Gregarious
3. Mr Globetrotter
