Three time winner over fences, but not won since November 2015, at Exeter, a track which seems to suit him well. Given a chance by the handicapper (dropped to 120) and will be suited by any further rain.
Previously with Peter Niven, but took a Southwell handicap hurdle for this yard in mid November (off 110). This race represents only his second start over fences (first in a handicap), and last of three finishers on chase debut in a novice event at Wetherby.
13 length winner of a 3m Soft ground handicap hurdle at Uttoxeter in March 2015. Cut little ice in two chase runs since an extended 18 month absence over the last month (one in Ireland), but 1 from 3 in PTP's, and worth a check in the market.
Veteran, who is a multiple chase winner in his native France. Has shown some verve in racing prominently in three starts for this yard, and is now falling down the weights, but needs to see out his races better to figure.
Enjoyed a pleasing start to his campaign, dead-heating at Ffos Las (3m Good), before dropping back 5f when following up at Hereford just over two weeks later. Disappointing last time (turned out quickly under a penalty), and upto 111, but has won over fences from 112 (Jan 2015).
Not won since 2013, and a maiden over fences (second twice). Shown little in three appearances (all over fences) since late October, but falling in the weights as a result. Others preferred.
Made all, soon clear (pecked last) when landing a touch in a novices handicap chase over an extended 3m2f at Sedgefield in early December. Not able to build on this (but better than bare placings) when fourth over shorter to a previous winner last time at Newcastle.
Forecasts
Pithivier (7/4), Cabragh (11/4), Saroque (11/2), Copper Birch (8/1), The Horsechesnut (10/1), Western Jo (12/1), Cafe De Paris (25/1)
Saroque looks certain to be suited by dropping in grade, but whether three miles at this track will be enough of a test is open to discussion. Copper Birch may well have won his races for now, but equally may not have been suited last time for being turned out so quickly. CABRAGH promises to be suited by stepping back up in trip, and may be able to dominate from the front. Time may tell that he faced a stiff task against a most progressive rival last time at Newcastle, and by Old Vic, he appears to boast stamina in abundance.
1. Cabragh
2. Saroque
3. Copper Birch
