The Statesman makes a quick reappearance under a penalty after winning at Sandown on Wednesday but preference is for FIRST NATION. Charlie Appleby’s colt has been running well over 1m4f lately but has twice gone close over this trip this season and can outstay City Of Joy, who is stepping up from a mile. Crowned Eagle beat the useful Secret Adviser at Windsor in the spring before trying his luck in the Derby. He should find this easier and makes more appeal than Harbour Rock, who is consistent but stepping up a grade for this.

Staxton didn't go the pace in the Gimcrack so may find a few too speedy. Enjazaat comfortably landed a Listed contest at Ripon while Invincible Army won a Group 3 at Kempton and has been performing well all summer. JAMES GARFIELD (NAP) looked a certain winner when taking the lead at this trip over 7f at York but was mugged on the line by Wells Farhh Go so should appreciate dropping back in trip and gets the nod. Lansky was around three lengths behind on the Knavesmire and looks held while Nebo, twice runner-up at Group 2 level, disappointed when favourite for the Gimcrack.

Newmarket 3.10 - Betfred Cesarewitch Trial Handicap

The weights in this Cesarewitch Trial are headed by Oriental Fox, who was second in the big race itself in 2015. But he’s one of three Mark Johnston runners with Time To Study likely to attract most interest after winning the Mallard Handicap at Doncaster last week. He had to be driven out to hold Byron Flyer but the front pair pulled clear of third Shrewd and the three-year-old looks a useful stayer in the making. Taws stays well and is in good form while Sternrubin arrives of the back of an easy win at Ffos Las, though this trip may stretch his stamina. ARTHUR McBRIDE was successful over 2m at Goodwood earlier this month and placed over 2m4f at the same track earlier. He has every chance of coming out on top again here having only been raised 3lb. Great Fighter and the Alan King pair Who Dares Wins and Oceane are others to consider.

Newbury 3.25 - Dubai Duty Free Handicap

Baydar was completing a double when landing this a year ago but hasn't been in anything like the same form and has changed stables. Five of these arrive with penalties having won their last races. Teodoro is on a four-timer and, though up 8lb for his victory at this level at Yarmouth, doesn't look finished yet. Fidaawy bounced back to form over 1m4f at York and is equally adept at this trip while Leshlaa was sent to Turkey for a Listed contest and came away with the spoils. Eddystone Rock gained his first success since joining John Best from Ireland in a very tough handicap at York while the lightly-raced Euginio has now won two handicaps at this level. Erik The Red didn't appear to appreciate 1m4f in Fidaawy's race at York having won over this trip at Doncaster. Pat Smullen takes over on ANYTHINGTODAY, who didn't enjoy stepping up in trip at Ascot after completing a double and running well over this distance earlier. Hugo Palmer's charge looks to have as good a chance as any in an ultra-competitive handicap.

Newbury 4.00 - Dubai International Airport World Trophy Stakes

COTAI GLORY won this last year and will be very much at home back in this grade after racing in all the top sprints. He can take advantage of the 5lb he receives from Caspian Prince, who has been in superb form having beaten Marsha in a Curragh Group 2 in July and will appreciate the ground. Judicial has been in tremendous form but was behind Take Cover in a Listed contest at York in July and the winner continued his revival in the Listed Beverley Bullet. Waady won at Leicester on ground with some give but had been put in his place by Priceless in the Group 2 Temple Stakes at Haydock in May when Goldream finished runner-up. Muthmir is another who can get involved in what should be a scorching sprint.

Newmarket 4.20 - ROA/Racing Post Owners Jackpot Handicap

Easy Tiger won at Leicester in the summer and is only 3lb higher. He ran well in a better race that this at Goodwood last month before finishing second in this grade last time and shouldn’t be far away again but NOBLE PEACE was probably given to much to do last time at Haydock. Henry Candy's charge been running well on ground with some give lately and went close off this mark at Goodwood in June so gets the vote. Robin Weathers and Bernardo O'Reilly are both open to improvement, along with Noble Star, but Prost may need to drop a few pounds.

Newmarket 4.55 - Wingate Signs WSG Handicap

Gorgeous Noora has untapped potential but will need to be useful to win this following a lengthy absence. Poet's Princess could be interesting as she was only beaten a head over course and distance back in May when 4lb higher, though has done little since. Hart Stopper was behind Related on the July course here last month but did better at Thirsk, though wouldn’t want any rain. MONT KIARA has won twice here and missed the break over 5f at Ascot last time. He is probably worth another chance, though Farleigh Mac could be given a chance on his best form. Ninjago and Moonraker also have a squeak.
