Darts results: Max Hopp prevails in three-player Home Tour group after Keegan Brown's internet connection fails

Max Hopp won a revised three-player group after Keegan Brown's internet connection failed during night 12 of the PDC's Home Tour.

Brown has been making the headlines during lockdown for doubling his hours in the NHS workforce and was taking the day off as a key worker to compete in the PDC's online tournament.

The Needle, who previously juggled his darts career with part-time work in the blood sciences department at the only hospital on the Isle of Wight, has taken a full-time role in the battle against the coronavirus pandemic.

At the start of the night Brown revealed that he could feasibly be required to return to the hospital during any of his matches due to being 'on call', but in the end it proved to be his dodgy WiFI and failure to reconnect via 3G that scuppered his chances.

The former World Youth champion did manage one game before then - a 5-3 defeat to Conan Whitehead - and when he was unable to return to action, the result was wiped out and a revised three-player format was quickly implemented.

Now facing each other twice, Hopp recovered from losing to Mike De Decker 5-3 in the opening match of the night to beat Whitehead 5-3 before reversing the scoreline against the Belgian.

A 5-2 triumph over Whitehead in their second meeting sealed his place in the next stage of the competition while the night ended with De Decker chalking up a 5-1 win to take second spot.

Prior to the evening, Brown spoke at length about his role with the NHS.

He told www.pdc.tv: "It's more or less the same role, but the shifts are longer and different hours. As we're support workers, it's a 24/7 rota so I'm still on call - even on Tuesday when I'm playing in the Home Tour!

"There are procedures in place for us to stay safe and we're following the guidelines that are there to keep us safe and well.

"I've had a lot of supportive messages from other players and it's been overwhelming. It's a nice feeling and it shows that people appreciate what people are doing in these tough times.

"I take my hats off to all of the key workers who are working at the moment - it's not just me. My life has not changed as much as others.

"I've found out about another PDC player, Aaron Beeney, who is working full-time still as a prison officer, and so many people are doing such amazing things."
