David Gilbert beats Duane Jones 6-1 in the semi-finals of the German Masters

David Gilbert will meet Kyren Wilson in the final of the German Masters on Sunday after defeating Welshman Duane Jones 6-1 in their last-four clash at the Tempodrom.

Jones has been one of the stories of the week, comfortably recording a career best finish in a ranking event by beating the likes of Jack Lisowski and Ding Junhui on the way to the semi-finals, but there was to be no dream finish as Gilbert cut short his challenge with a ruthless display.

Gilbert, too, has enjoyed a fine tournament and was a warm favourite here having defeated two world champions in Mark Selby and Neil Robertson on Friday.

Despite the understandable early nerves Jones was first off the mark, taking the opening frame in convincing fashion before Gilbert dominated frames two and three to lead 2-1.

A run of 66 was enough to see Gilbert extend his lead to 3-1 at the mid-session interval and a well-compiled century break (105) in the next moved him three frames clear.

Gilbert dictated terms in the sixth frame and put himself within touching distance of victory when producing a break of 52 before closing out the match by taking a nervy frame seven.

Wilson waltzes past Maguire

Gilbert will face Kyren Wilson in Sunday's final after the latter eased past Stephen Maguire 6-1.

A quarter-final defeat of Judd Trump on Friday should have left Maguire full of confidence but he was unable to match those heights as Wilson stormed into a 4-0 lead at the mid-session interval thanks to breaks of 67 and 51.

Maguire stopped the rot upon the resumption, dominating frame five, but Wilson soon wrapped up proceedings with breaks of 63 and 62 taking him over the line.
