Burning Up²³

Age: 2| Weight: 9-2| J: C Lee| T: K R Burke| OR: 97| D

6/1

Too Darn Hot colt who is 2-2 in maiden/novice events over 1m at Haydock. Looks capable of making his presence felt in a higher grade.

Form: 11

First Law²¹

Age: 2| Weight: 9-2| J: W Buick| T: C Appleby| OR: 101| D

7/2

1,000,000 gns Too Darn Hot colt who overcame inexperience on his 1m Sandown debut and saw off Rocket Boy in a listed race at Haydock (1m, soft) a month later. This smart prospect is the mount of William Buick from the Charlie Appleby pair and gets the vote.

Form: 11

(4)

Haffner¹³

Age: 2| Weight: 9-2| J: R L Moore| T: A P O'Brien| OR: 110

7/4

Second in Group 2 Vintage at Goodwood before going one place better in the Acomb at York (7f, good). Well beaten in the Group 1 National Stakes at the Curragh since but he's a lot better than that. First attempt at 1m.

Form: 21217

Iwasjustsaying¹⁸

Age: 2| Weight: 9-2| J: J Mitchell| T: C Johnston| OR: 86| BF

33/1

Made a promising winning start to his career in a 4-runner novice at Doncaster (7f, firm) in August. Bettered that form when second of 9 under a penalty at Leicester (7f, good) 18 days ago. Open to further progress but this is a jump in class.

Form: 12

(6)

Quest For Stars¹⁴

Age: 2| Weight: 9-2| J: Billy Loughnane| T: C Appleby| OR: 105| D

6/1

Won first 3 starts, notably a Salisbury listed event (1m, good). Lost his unbeaten record when 7 lengths third of 9 to Darkness Falls in 9f Group 1 at Leopardstown (good to firm) 14 days ago but it was another step forward. Probably more to come.

Form: 1113

(5)

Quicken Away¹⁸

Age: 2| Weight: 9-2| J: Oisin Murphy| T: A M Balding| BF| D

9/2

500,000 gns Frankel colt who was undone by greenness on his 1m Newbury debut (good to firm) and made no mistake in another 1m maiden at Goodwood (heavy) 18 days ago. Sure to go on to better things.

Form: 21

(3)

Rocket Boy²¹

Age: 2| Weight: 9-2| J: Marco Ghiani| T: M Botti| OR: 100

18/1

Yarmouth debut winner. Placed behind reopposing pair Quest For Stars and First Law in 1m listed event since. The suspicion is he'll find at least one too strong again.

Form: 132

Forecasts

Haffner (7/4), First Law (7/2), Quicken Away (9/2), Burning Up (6/1), Quest For Stars (6/1), Rocket Boy (18/1), Iwasjustsaying (33/1)

Perhaps best to narrow this down to unbeaten pair FIRST LAW and Burning Up. The former was snugly on top of Rocket Boy in a Haydock listed race 3 weeks ago and is narrowly preferred. The selection's stablemate Quest For Stars may prove best of the remainder.
