C&D winner. His last success came at Haydock in 2024 but he has a reduced mark to work with as a result and his C&D third of 12 in April was a step back in the right direction, albeit Montezuma was ahead in second. Off for a further 3 months since.

C&D winner in June. 15/8, respectable third of 8 in handicap at Newmarket (5f, firm) 27 days ago, not ideally placed after being hampered leaving the stalls.
|
Fifteen runs since last win in 2024. 13/2, ran better than on reappearance when fifth of 11 in handicap at Carlisle (5f, soft) 52 days ago, unable to sustain effort. May come on for the run again.
|
Started the season with a win and 2 seconds over this C&D. Hasn't done quite so well at other venues since but capable of staging a revival back at Musselburgh.
|
Back to winning ways when seeing off 10 rivals at Ayr (5f, firm) 18 days ago. Raised 5 lb but he still remains 6 lb below the mark he defied in this race last year. Should go well again.

Forecasts
Montezuma (9/4), Jer Batt (11/4), Curious Rover (7/2), Mighty Magnus (9/2), Francisco's Piece (13/2)
Four of the 5 runners have tasted C&D success. MONTEZUMA hasn't finished out of the first 2 in his 4 previous C&D visits and is taken to bounce back to form with a bang and prove too strong for last year's winner Curious Rover. Sole 3-y-o Mighty Magnus shaped quite well at Newmarket last time and should also be on the premises.
