French recruit who left debut form in his wake when landing 9.5f maiden at La Teste De Buch in September and similar form having been well placed when third in minor event at Bordeaux thereafter. Changed hands for 40,000 gns/gelded and market can guide on return/handicap bow.

Much improved since sent handicapping/fitted with a visor, registering a fourth career victory at Doncaster (1m) in April. Posted best effort yet having first crack at this trip when second at Epsom last weekend and he looks sure to go well again.

Didn't need to match previous best when running out a dominant winner on return to action at Bath (1¼m, good) in April. Shaped as if amiss when last of 6 on handicap debut at Sandown later that month but given a break ahead of this and he rates the type to bounce back.

Pontefract debut winner last summer who found things tougher in stronger company thereafter. Resumed in handicaps (fitted with cheekpieces) with pair of respectable fourth place finishes in recent months at Haydock/York but suspicion he remains a shade high in the weights.

Bath maiden winner (1m) in September who was over faced in Group company next time but back on track (gelded in interim) when third at Kempton (1m) in April. However, not built on that since, running poorly at York 3 weeks ago. Visor now goes on for stable who took this 12 months ago.

Frankel colt who has found only one too good on each of his 3 starts in novice company to date, bumping into one making his turf debut at Pontefract (1¼m, good) 44 days ago. Brings a solid platform to build on now handicapping and likely he can do better still for powerful yard.

€72,000 purchase last summer who confirmed debut promise when landing 7-runner novice at Thirsk (1m) last month, finding plenty in the process. This further increase in trip looks a definite plus given how he shaped then and there's better to come on handicap debut.

Progressing steadily in handicaps, going down narrowly over this trip at Goodwood in May prior to resuming winning ways minus cheekpieces at Windsor (11.5f) 25 days ago, benefiting from a proactive ride. Can remain competitive back down in trip.

Progressed in 3 qualifying runs over 1m last year and took another step forward after 9 months off (also gelded) when third of 10 in a C&D handicap 2 weeks ago, staying on gradually having run green. Feasible to think he can do better again, including over further.

Forecasts

Morbeh (15/8), Silver State (5/2), Home Hero (15/2), Asia Force (8/1), Colourband (12/1), Mr Seagull (12/1), Simon Pierre (16/1), Magic Trip (22/1), Valpovo (33/1)

Verdict

No shortage of chances in this intriguing 3-y-o handicap but SIMON PIERRE found plenty when getting the better of a subsequent winner at Thirsk in April and he appeals as being on a handy opening mark with this further increase in trip promising to suit. He shades preference over Silver State who continues to go the right way. Asia Force and Morbeh complete the shortlist.
