Lope Y Fernandez gelding who left his debut form behind after 5 months off when second to a stablemate in a Newcastle novice (7f) in April, finishing with running left. Progressed again when filling same spot at Redcar (7f) subsequently and likely to be thereabouts again.

Ulysses gelding. Dam, 1m winner, half-sister to smart 5f/6f winner Azure Blue out of unraced half-sister to 7f winner Valeria Messalina. Has already had a breathing operation but produced a promising first effort when second of 10 in 7f novice at Southwell last month. Entitled to progress.

Shaped much better than the distance beaten suggests when mid-field in a valuable sales race at Doncaster (6.5f) in September, keeping on when snatched up final 1f. Couldn't capitalise on the drop in grade over C&D on final outing and has leading claims on return having had a breathing operation.

Dream Ahead gelding. Half-brother to 3 winners, including 7f-1m winner Ayr Harbour and 1m-1¼m winner Desert Lion, both useful. Shaped as if in need of the experience when fifth of 14 in 7f maiden at Thirsk (good) on last month's debut and should do better somewhere down the line.

Forecasts

Whernside (5/4), Blakefell (15/8), Star Banner (7/1), You Will See (17/2), Dream Odyssey (10/1), Alpha Platoon (50/1)

Verdict

BLAKEFELL sets the standard on the pick of his 2-y-o efforts and, having not been seen to best effect over C&D on his final outing, is worth another chance on reappearance. Whernside is knocking on the door and seems sure to be in the thick of the action once more, while Star Banner is an interesting newcomer who requires close market scrutiny.
