Smart chaser who has been largely disappointing since winning 2024 Irish Grand National, though made a bit more impact when down the field in the Bobbyjo Chase behind Grangeclare West last time. Handicapper has relented, but leap of faith required.

Former Thyestes Chase winner who was also sixth in 2024 Grand National for Henry de Bromhead. However, was completely tailed off when falling at the last in a Kelso listed race at the end of February on his return from a lengthy absence. Hard to recommend.

Won Ulster National at Downpatrick (extended 3½m) in March and presumably found the racing coming too soon when well beaten in the Irish Grand National 8 days later. Others more persuasive.

Won the Kim Muir at Cheltenham in 2024/25, but hasn't fired this season, including in the same race last time. Yard is going well and good-value 5 lb conditional booked but well-being has to be taken completely on trust.

Landed a 5-timer in 2024/25 but proved better than ever in first-time cheekpieces when winning Grimthorpe Chase at Doncaster by 33 lengths from Some Scope. Has been given time to get over that performance and claims if lasting out this longer trip.

Running well when brought down 2 out in the National Hunt Chase at last season's Cheltenham Festival but has struggled since and was labouring from a long way out in Irish Grand National on return from 6-month absence last time.

Bordering on smart stayer in 2024/25, but hasn't looked the same horse this season, his best recent effort coming when 20 lengths third of 15 to The Lovely Man in Leinster National Handicap Chase at Naas in March. Pulled up in Irish Grand National last time.

Three-time winning hurdler who has also shown useful form over fences without getting his head in front. Shaped with some promise on first 2 starts this season but was disappointing at Uttoxeter last time and looks up against it in such a competitive handicap,

Won this race last May by 15 lengths from Outside The Door. Has struggled off higher marks and with his jumping since, however, and whilst he did shape better than being pulled up suggests in the Irish Grand National last time, he's very much an unreliable betting proposition.

Fairly useful form in maiden chases this winter and made a promising start to his handicap career over fences when fourth of 16 over 21.5f at Leopardstown in March. Failed to complete on his first attempt at a marathon trip at Downpatrick last time but remains open to improvement.

As good as ever when landing same Aintree race for the second year running on return, beating a subsequent winner. Hasn't kicked on in 3 subsequent outings, though left poorly placed under a patient ride at Kelso last time. Stamina to prove.

Maiden chaser who has posted several good efforts this season, including when runner-up on last 2 starts, beaten 5 lengths by Born Braver in 15-runner Ulster National at Downpatrick last time. Should be suited by this longer trip and Townend elects to ride him over his 3 stablemates.

Verdict

FOLLY MASTER has long looked worth a try at this sort of trip and, with his season seemingly geared around bringing him to peak in the spring, he looks worth siding with in an open affair. J'Arrive de L'Est, Uncle Pat and Jasmin de Grugy head a plethora of potential dangers.
