Dual hurdles winner who improved over fences when bagging 2 handicaps in the first half of last year. Second in small field at Doncaster in November on the back of a breathing operation but has gone the wrong way last 4 starts. Cheekpieces the headgear of choice this time.

Managed to win 4 handicaps over fences since February 2025 despite his advancing years. Really good second at Doncaster in February but couldn't take advantage of his lower mark over hurdles at Wetherby 4 weeks ago. Considered switched back over the larger obstacles.

Two-time hurdle winner who got off the mark over fences at Carlisle last spring. Has shown precious little in a handful of starts this campaign though, failing to complete in a change of headgear last month. Leap of faith needed.

Campaigned over fences last season, posting a career best when a wide-margin winner in Eider Chase at Newcastle. He's struggled for form in both codes since then, first-time blinkers making little discernible difference at Hereford last month. Usual cheekpieces back on.

Not straightforward but largely in good form this season, winning at Cartmel (17f) in August and Fakenham (21f) in December. Ran to a similar level when fourth at Wetherby last month and now heads back up in distance.

Struggles for consistency but was back on song after a break when scoring at Wetherby 18 days ago, his stamina really coming to the fore late on. Got up late under this rider in this race 12 months ago and could well repeat the feat from a 6 lb higher mark provided he's on a going day.

Forecasts

Giovanni Change (3/1), Ladronne (7/2), Mt Fugi Park (9/2), Knockanore (9/2), Hurricane Bay (5/1), No But I Will (7/1)

Verdict

GIOVANNI CHANGE's stamina really came to the fore when scoring at Wetherby last month and having been successful in this race 12 months ago, Mark Walford's 11-y-o gets the nod to repeat the feat. Fellow veteran Ladronne has been in good nick for most of this season, so he heads up the opposition back over the larger obstacles.
