Confirmed debut promise when off the mark in a valuable 7-runner maiden at Southwell (1m). Improved under a penalty when third behind a pair of well-bred newcomers at Kempton prior to running flat on handicap debut at Wolverhampton. Steps up in trip now which could see him resume his progress.

Won a Brighton maiden last October and was flying too high in Group 1 Criterium de Saint-Cloud next time. Faces a much more suitable test on handicap debut.

Fair maiden who wasted what had looked a good opportunity in a C&D maiden last month, hanging right and carrying his head awkwardly. Attitude now under suspicion ahead of this switch to handicaps.

Showed improved form when making a successful handicap debut in 6-runner event at Wolverhampton (9.5f) last November, seeing his race out well despite still showing signs of inexperience. Off since but further progress shouldn't be ruled out.

Much improved from debut when second of 5 in novice at Wolverhampton (9.5f) in January, beaten a neck having raced freely. Progressed again when going one better at Chelmsford (1m) subsequently and can continue to go the right way now entering handicap company over a slightly longer trip.

Improved upped in trip when second of 8 in 1m handicap at Kempton (11/2) on last month's stable debut, helped by being held up in a strongly-run race. Further increase in trip shouldn't inconvenience him on that evidence but this is a stronger race. 7-lb claimer takes over in the saddle.

Forecasts

Felix Gem (9/4), Al Azd (11/4), Sudbury Hill (3/1), Alba Gu Brath (9/2), A Taste of Glory (5/1), Exotic Baby (12/1), Impossible Mission (14/1)

Verdict

FELIX GEM has improved with each run, settling better when decisively opening his account at Chelmsford on most recent start, which bodes well now stepping up slightly further in trip on handicap debut. He's preferred to Alba Gu Brath, who won readily at Newcastle last time despite hanging left, while A Taste of Glory will find this assignment much more suitable than when contesting a Grade 1 in France on his final outing in October.
