Didn't show a great deal in 3 maiden hurdles last winter but bred to be a chaser and a totally different proposition when making a winning handicap debut over fences at Kelso in November. Held back by a bad error when second of 4 at Catterick since but he retains potential at this level.

Opened his account off 7 lb higher mark at Uttoxeter a year ago and having been out of sorts, he shaped better than result at Haydock in December. Unable to build on that twice since, latterly in first-time cheekpieces.

Fair winning hurdler who failed to build on reappearance promise when pulling up on chase debut at Market Rasen (17.2f) 2 weeks ago. A chaser on looks and more like it in a change of headgear when second at Ffos Las a fortnight ago, albeit not always fluent.

Modest maiden hurdler in Ireland. Pulled up in Worcester handicap hurdle in July 2024 (only run for Robbie Llewellyn) but made promising return from absence for new yard when third in 2½m Huntingdon handicap chase in December. Ridden differently and could never land a blow at Plumpton.

Low mileage 9-y-o who didn't show much in 3 widely-spaced qualifying runs over hurdles but made more of an impact when fourth on handicap bow at Uttoxeter. Makes chase debut now.

Ex-Irish winning hurdler in 2023 and didn't shape badly sent chasing on second run following a lengthy absence/for this yard at Plumpton in December. However, it's fair to say that he hasn't kicked on from that in 3 subsequent runs and he's since had a breathing operation.

Fairly useful bumper winner but unable to add to tally over hurdles. Showed aptitude for chasing when third at Ffos Las a fortnight ago and cheekpieces now on.

Won this race a year ago and returned from a near three-month break with an encouraging fifth of 12 at Ludlow (20f, soft), left with a lot to do. Cheekpieces back on and he was outpaced at Huntingdon last week. More severe headgear now employed.

Forecasts

Classical Sting (7/4), Hawk Stone (11/4), Lucky Lugger (7/1), Kitsilano (8/1), Leech (17/2), Night Jet (10/1), Urblereagh (16/1), Applicationofcash (20/1)

Verdict

CLASSICAL STING was unable to land the odds at Catterick in December but it was by no means a bad effort in second and given the impression he created prior to that, this mark should be well within range, He can get back on the up, with Hawk Stone and Urblereagh (on chase debut) perhaps the main opposition.
