Ran well when runner-up at Ripon on his comeback in April. Ninth of 17 in handicap at York (11/1) 9 months ago, his profile more miss than hit since Royal Ascot win in 2024. Plenty to prove on AW debut.

Ran well at Dundalk on last two AW starts, travelling fluently though lacking a turn of foot when third of 7 in conditions race (9/1) 21 days ago. Hasn't won in 15 races and first-time cheekpieces are now on back down significantly in trip.

Newcastle specialist with 6 course wins who bounced back to form when successful in higher-grade handicap over 6f at the track (33/1) 21 days ago, having dropped to the mark he defied a year earlier. Up 5 lb and back down in trip, so he has to be taken seriously.

Won first 4 starts 9 months apart but has been disappointing since. Tenth of 12 in handicap at Ripon (14/1) in September, slowly into stride in first-time tongue strap and made no impression. AW debut back from a break.

Won twice on turf in spring including over this trip at Pontefract and left Mark Usher for 82,000 gns after. Best forgiven Ayr Gold Cup run given his poor track position and this previous course winner should have more to offer in 2026.

Strong in the betting and another sound effort when second of 7 in 6f course handicap (4/1) 17 days ago, unable to find a way past one that had been marginally better placed. Returns to 5f where he has won twice at this C&D early in his career.

Absent for 16 months, last seen finishing fifth of 7 in listed company at Fairyhouse (10/3), disputed lead before weakening final 1f. First run for new stable/handicap debut and he's entitled to need this.

Back-to-back winner here this winter and another sound effort when fifth of 14 in handicap over 6f under penalty (11/1) 21 days ago, travelled well but short of room in final furlong. Back at 5f and likely to give it another good go.

Sprinter with a strong C&D record who added to this haul in December. Wasn't disgraced when third of 5 in handicap at this C&D (9/2) 13 days ago in a better class than he usually contests.

Won at York in July and 2 cracking placed efforts in good-quality handicaps soon after at that venue. Sixth of 7 in handicap at Southwell (7/1) 77 days ago, shaped as if needing the run after a break, his effort flattening out on AW debut. Looks the one to beat if back to his York form.

Without a win since July 2024, sixth of 6 in handicap at Pontefract (7/2) in August with first-time tongue strap. Very capable after a break and mark has fallen but others more persuasive on balance.

Ran well in defeat last autumn including third at Ascot and occupied same spot on in handicap at Catterick (9/2) 111 days ago, confirming himself still in good heart. Cheekpieces removed on rare AW start these days (won twice over 7f here in 2023).

Forecasts

The Caltonian (11/2), Heavenly Heather (6/1), Strong Warrior (13/2), Fahrenheit Seven (7/1), Venture Capital (15/2), Paddy's Day (9/1), Badri (9/1), Air Force One (11/1), Apache Outlaw (12/1), Pilgrim (12/1), Rhythm N Hooves (14/1), Mr Lightside (22/1), Elegant Erin (33/1), Vingegaard (40/1)

Verdict

AIR FORCE ONE showed excellent form at York during the summer and he could be the answer to this competitive contest on just his second AW start back from a break. Badri has been running well for a while now and returns to 5f where he's won twice at this C&D, so he's feared most, though The Caltonian is a Newcastle specialist with 6 course wins, including a useful handicap last time.
