Progressive as a juvenile last season, finishing third in Grade 1 Champion 4-Y-O at Punchestown in May. Ridden with an eye to the future on C&D reappearance in December Hurdle and could have more to offer on first start in handicap company.

Enjoyed a fine 2025, producing a career best when winning a competitive 17-runner C&D handicap (fourth won next time). Clearly thriving on racing and has earned a crack at this valuable pot.

Improved to win Boodles juvenile Grade 1 at Aintree (17f) prior to finishing fourth in Champion 4-y-o at Punchestown. Conceding weight/race fitness when highly creditable third on reappearance at Fairyhouse and merits respect with Paul Townend back aboard on first start in open company.

Useful hurdler for Gavin Cromwell (eighth in County Hurdle at Cheltenham) and was left poorly placed in 2m Flat handicap on stable debut in October. Can be competitive returning to hurdles following a break.

Useful hurdler but underperformed when down-the-field in Fred Winter at Cheltenham (16.4f) and was just behind Hello Neighbour (not having much left) when falling at last in Champion 4-Y-O when last seen in May. Jockey bookings would suggest he isn't the stable's leading hope.

Won this race in 2024 (well held last year) and proved as good as ever when runner-up in listed handicap on latest hurdle start. Remained a credit to connections on Flat since and can give his running on hurdles return.

Useful Grade 2 winner as juvenile who was beaten by more than the trip/absence when well held over 2½m on reappearance here. Too soon to discount.

Improved on Flat when third of 19 in Cesarewitch and turned in one of his best hurdling efforts when fourth in a valuable listed handicap over 2½m here in December. Took a strong hold that day and could be interesting dropping back in trip with Harry Cobden aboard.

Group 3 winner on Flat and has made up into a useful hurdler, placing in Royal Bond as juvenile and matched that form when jumping better than previously to win 2m conditions hurdle at Punchestown (16f, heavy) 52 days ago. Needs to prove he can back that up in big field handicap.

Useful hurdler/chaser in France but made no impression on reappearance/stable debut at Punchestown (19.2f) on New Year's Day. Now sent handicapping and warrants a market check on second start for Martin Brassil yard.

Progressive when completing a cross-code hat-trick since September, improving again to land to beat Bowensonfire in listed handicap at Fairyhouse (likely winner fell at last). Easy to back/shaped like a non-stayer over 2½m here latest and could get back on track returned to 2m under useful claimer.

Useful bumper winner who underlined a positive start over hurdles when staying on well to land a 20-runner novice hurdle (8/11) at Punchestown (16.6f, heavy) 21 days ago. Booking of Sean Bowen catches the eye on handicap debut and he looks sure to progress for shrewd yard. Leading contender.

Improved to justify support on handicap bow at Punchestown in May and may have been campaigned with a valuable pot in mind, step back in the right direction when sixth in the Greatwood at Cheltenham in November. Interesting to see if he's supported.

2023 Champion Bumper winner (useful winner at 15f on the Flat) but yet to hit those heights over hurdles, for all he ran his best race when third in 19-runner handicap at Punchestown (19.2f, good to soft) 32 days ago. Would be in the mix if he can build on that.

Fairly useful bumper winner who made it third time lucky over hurdles in Naas maiden in February last year. Proved to be a disappointment sent handicapping at Fairyhouse prior to shaping as though amiss at Punchestown when last seen in May. Yard appear to have stronger chances in the race.

Highly progressive this season, typically made running/jumped fluently to land a hat-trick in 11-runner handicap hurdle at Thurles (16.1f, good to soft, 11/4) 43 days ago. Stiffer task as he bids for 4-timer but cannot be discounted in current vein of form.

Verdict

Useful bumper winner I STARTED A JOKE was much improved to get off the mark over hurdles and he can make a winning start in handicaps with Sean Bowen aboard. Putapooundinthejar finished a creditable sixth in the Greatwood last time and it would be no surprise to see him back to his best for the shrewd Tony Martin stable, while Willie Mullins has a typically strong hand, Murcia the choice of Paul Townend following her encouraging reappearance behind Talk The Talk.
