Runner-up sole start in bumpers and showed promise when placed at Chepstow all 3 outings over hurdles last term. Plenty to like about that form but hasn't kicked on in a couple of appearances this time round, including on handicap debut at Cheltenham in November.

Goes well in the mud and also here, making it 2-2 at this course when bagging a 2¾m mares' handicap hurdle here in November 2024. Followed Leicester reappearance near-miss with a poor display at Fontwell (pulled up), though, and she looks vulnerable off this mark.

Flemensfirth mare who was a fairly useful bumper winner. Bright start over hurdles when winning a soft-ground C&D maiden in November and wasn't disgraced when fourth on handicap bow back here (2½m, heavy) last time. One to consider back down in trip off 1 lb lower.

Often flatters to deceive and while he ended last season with a couple of creditable efforts in defeat at Chepstow, he has failed to shine in 3 starts since returning from a break in October.

Fair winning hurdler/chaser but not the most consistent and it remains to be seen if this sizeable drop in trip (has done most of his racing at around 3m) will work in his favour.

Fair form in France and belatedly scaled similar heights on these shores when opening his account in good style in a heavy-ground C&D handicap earlier this month. 6 lb rise fair enough and another bold show anticipated.

Justified support with a typically enthusiastic display from the front when registering a third C&D success last spring. However, hasn't been anywhere near that level of late and was well beaten back here in the race won by El Gavilan 22 days ago.

Forecasts

El Gavilan (5/4), Reinado (9/4), There Runs Mary (11/4), Cast's Tasha (6/1), Shade Of Winter (7/1), Face d'Music (12/1), Zambezi Fix (20/1), Gavin (25/1)

Verdict

Testing conditions proved no barrier to success for French import EL GAVILAN when getting off the mark over C&D last time and, with the mud likely to be flying once more, he looks capable of doing the business again off this 6 lb higher mark. Reinado evidently goes well with plenty of cut in the ground, too, and he is feared in his hat-trick bid, while the lightly-raced There Runs Mary is also greatly respected.
