Successful sole start in points and improved on promising hurdle debut to win Grade 2 Albert Bartlett Novices' Hurdle (Bristol) at Cheltenham (24f), overcoming greenness to score by short head (runner-up has since franked the form). Carries a penalty but he's sure to progress further for top yard.

Showed a good attitude when landing a double over 2m6f at Cartmel in the summer and showed much improved form when narrowly beaten at Haydock (24.3f) last month, likely to have won had he jumped better. Has more on his plate pitched into a graded race, however.

Placed both starts in Irish points prior to making a successful hurdle debut at Newcastle (20f) and improved to follow up over a penalty in a Kelso novice (22.7f). Isn't the finished article and should appreciate the further step up in trip as he bids to make it 3-3.

Debut bumper winner who routed the field on hurdles debut at Fontwell and got quickly back on track when readily justifying support in a 22f novice at Windsor on New Year's Day. Further step up in trip will suit on pedigree (yard had success with this family) but softer ground would be an unknown.

Lightly-raced and going the right way, making it two wins from 4 starts over hurdles when picking up well to win a 7-runner novice hurdle at this course (19.4f, good) 26 days ago. In capable hands and he's likely to do even better now faced with a greater test. One for the shortlist.

Won 3 times during the summer and went down all guns blazing when finding just one too strong in Carlisle novice (2½m, soft) in November. Produced another solid display when fourth behind Carlenrig in Grade 2 company at Cheltenham (3m) last month but he's more exposed than most in this field.

Two-time Irish point winner who left his hurdle debut form well behind when fifth at Newcastle and found another chunk of improvement to get off the mark decisively in a Carlisle maiden (19.3f, soft) 41 days ago. Boasts a positive profile but faces a much different test upped to 3m/graded company.

Runner-up sole start in Irish points in February and has made a most promising start under Rules winning back-to-back maiden/novice races at Leicester (20.5f) on soft/heavy ground, latterly when winning with ease under a penalty. Upped in grade for hat-trick bid but remains open to improvement.

Useful in bumpers in 2023/24 and justified support on hurdle debut/reappearance when getting the better of poorly placed Carlenrig at Chepstow (19.4f) in November, typically ridden positively and only kept up to work late on. That form is solid and he's unexposed over this markedly longer trip.

Fairly useful bumper performer who got off the mark at the first time of asking over hurdles when beating a now smart sort at Gowran (16.1f, heavy). Improved when chasing home well-ridden winner in 2½m Grade 2 novice at Navan and has strong form claims if seeing out this longer trip.

Improved to land hat-trick in 2m maiden/handicaps at Perth and far from disgraced in better company this season, again shaping as if needed further when well held third in 6-runner Grade 1 Formby at Aintree (17f) on Boxing Day. Not discounted back over markedly longer trip.

Winning pointer who built on hurdling debut promise (second in strong Ffos Las maiden) when easily landing the odds in 8-runner novice hurdle at Chepstow (23.6f) last month. Created an excellent impression that day and looks more than ready for this step up in class.

Forecasts

The Last Cloud (18/5), Country Code (9/2), Kicour La (9/2), Thedeviluno (15/2), The Price Of Peace (8/1), Get On George (9/1), Rocking Man (10/1), Fountains Blenhein (12/1), Carlenrig (14/1), Kent De Thaix (33/1), Intosomethinggood (40/1), Caughtinyourtrance (100/1)

Verdict

An interesting renewal stacked with unexposed types. THEDEVILUNO stepped forward from his strong hurdle debut form to finish runner-up in a 2½m Grade 2 at Navan and could be the one to beat if seeing out this longer trip. The Price of Peace finished second in a useful Ffos Las maiden on debut and created an excellent impression when landing the odds at Chepstow last time, while progressive last-time-out winner Get On George should relish this greater stamina test.
