Useful bumper performer in 2023/24 but never really fulfilled that promise over hurdles. Right back on track over fences though, making a successful debut in a 7-runner handicap chase at Wincanton (20.2f, soft). Up 6 lb but there's better still to come.

Off for 8 months prior but landed a gamble when winning a 14-runner handicap hurdle (9/4) at Catterick (19.3f, good) 15 days ago. Up to a career-high mark now sent chasing.

Won handicap hurdles on first 2 starts for this yard at the beginning of 2025 and struck at the third of time of asking over fences this season when easily accounting for 5 rivals in 2m Leicester handicap 15 days ago. Up in trip but expected to be bang there.

Failed to build on winning a Chepstow novice hurdle last season but back on track sent chasing when third there in November. Can give a good account but others appeal as likelier winners.

Two handicap hurdle wins last season and good third in 2m Cheltenham handicap on reappearance in October. However, beaten a long way both subsequent starts, including on last month's chase debut.

Has dropped down the weights and produced his best effort for some time when second of 9 in handicap chase at Ludlow (20f, soft) 26 days ago. Player if able to back that up.

Fair handicap hurdler/chaser who notched second success over fences when cosily landing a fast-ground Huntingdon handicap in October. Subsequent efforts have lacked spark, though, and he needs to bounce back.

Bagged third victory of last season when taking a 5-runner Taunton handicap chase (23f, soft) in February. Well backed returning from 9 months off last time but fell 5 out when still in front. Interesting to see if market support is replicated this time.

Fair maiden hurdler in France and improved when runner-up in a 6-runner 4-y-o conditions event on second start over fences in June. Subsequently changed hands for €20,000 but hasn't fired either outing for connections, despite having undergone a wind-op prior to chase debut last time.

Low-mileage 5-y-o made a winning handicap hurdle debut at Chepstow final outing last season. Improved from chasing bow when third of 7 in handicap chase (5/2) at Taunton (23f, good) 32 days ago, though wasn't always fluent and showed tendency to hang left, so others preferred on balance.

Bought for £120,000 after placing in a couple of Irish points and the latest of last season's 3 runs over hurdles was a step in the right direction, finishing fourth of 14 in a Wincanton maiden (15.2f, soft). Off 11 months but type to do better now chasing over further.

Forecasts

Noahsgreatrainbow (7/2), Rodney (4/1), Pepe Le Moko (9/2), I Ain't Your Mate (11/2), The Winslow Boy (15/2), Soldierofthestorm (10/1), Ede'iffs Rock (10/1), The Magus (12/1), Zestful Hope (25/1), Gold For Alec (33/1), Just Forty (50/1)

Verdict

RODNEY was an easy winner on his third start over fences at Leicester last month and can follow up from a 7 lb higher mark. Noahsgreatrainbow still appeals as on a workable mark after his chase debut success and is the biggest threat, further improvement from him hard to rule out, with Ede'iffs Rock completing the shortlist.
