Showed ability in bumpers/novice hurdle for Lorna Fowler and runner-up on debut for present yard in a maiden hurdle at Huntingdon (19.6f, good) last October. Has failed to build on that since switched to handicaps, but the assessor has been quick to show mercy and he's not one to write off just yet.

Placed in a pair of good-ground bumpers last season and improved on low-key maiden/novice hurdle form when fourth in a 12-runner handicap at Doncaster (19.4f, good to soft). 2 lb lower here and needs considering.

Found just one too good in a Warwick maiden hurdle on final run for Laura Horsfall in May 2024. Again runner-up on second start for this yard in a Southwell handicap (20.4f, soft) in February and shouldn't be judged too harshly on subsequent effort over the same C&D. Possibilities.

Bettered what he showed on handicap debut in March when third of 7 on return at Leicester (20.5f, soft), but it remains to be seen if he'll be able to build on that.

Belatedly got off the mark when winning a 10-runner handicap here (18.5f, good) in September. Has backed that up with creditable efforts in defeat at Huntingdon and Taunton since, and he's certainly not without each-way hope.

Little impact in 3 runs in this sphere at around 2m, but he was placed both starts between the flags and is one to be interested in now upped in trip for this handicap debut with a tongue strap enlisted.

Best effort to date when a well held third in a 9-runner novice on qualifying run at Bangor (19.6f, soft) in April. That form is very modest, though, and her reappearance/handicap debut display here last month wasn't particularly encouraging.

No impact in her qualifying runs during the spring, but she took a step forward when third of 11 on return/handicap debut at Carlisle (19.3f, soft). Will be a threat if able to build on that here.

Perth bumper winner in September 2021 and produced best effort yet over hurdles when third upped to this trip at Uttoxeter in June 2024. Absent since, but it will be interesting to see how he shapes up in the betting.

Modest maiden on the Flat and while his latest fourth of 8 when 3 lb 'wrong' at Newcastle was a decent enough display, he's 8 lb out of the handicap this time.

Forecasts

Gms Prince (4/1), Ballynoe Boy (9/2), Roxby Belle (9/2), Welcheston Warrier (5/1), A Law To Himself (15/2), Gotthereintheend (8/1), Celine Man (10/1), Recoded (11/1), Annies Gold (14/1), Renegade Arrow (16/1), Macho Sun (50/1)

Verdict

It could be that chasing will ultimately prove to be A LAW TO HIMSELF's game, but he is still appealing now handicapping over hurdles with the stiffer test here likely to be right up his street. If there are positives vibes surrounding him in the betting, all the better. Roxby Belle took a step forward when third at Carlisle and she looks dangerous, while Renegade Arrow will have claims if fit enough to do himself justice following 18 months off and an on-song Recoded would also have a chance.
