Sometimes flounders when it comes to the crunch, but boasts a good record fresh and is 2-2 at Ascot, having won this race in both 2022 and 2023. Better than ever when scoring at Uttoxeter (2½m, soft) during the spring and while this 5 lb higher mark demands more, he is a big player nonetheless.

Landed a gamble at Chepstow on second run of 2024/25 campaign and followed that with a fine third in the valuable Sodexo Live! Gold Cup over 3m here last November. Not quite in the same form since, but reappearance fifth of 12 in this season's renewal of that Grade 3 handicap was pretty encouraging.

Ended losing run on the back of a wind op when easily landing a 3-runner event at Newbury (19.8f, good) on his recent seasonal reappearance. Remains feasibly treated up 7 lb, but it's a slight concern that all 5 of his career wins (and his best performances in general) have come on left-hand tracks.

Verdict

The one with the most appealing profile is ROYAL JEWEL, who didn't convince with his stamina for this trip at Newton Abbot during the spring, but it was a different story back there on his reappearance last month when the 6-y-o produced a career-best to take an 11-runner handicap in decisive fashion. The return to a right-hand track will be in his favour and he gets the nod ahead of Your Darling, a dual previous winner of this race, and the consistent Courtland.
