On a losing run but made more impact than previously over fences fitted with a tongue strap when second over C&D 12 days ago, left behind by winner gradually. Respected back down in class.

Proved better than ever when making it 6 wins from 14 starts over fences at Wetherby 19 days ago, aided in no small part by a terrific round of jumping. Should make another bold bid.

In top form over hurdles last season, scoring at Doncaster in February then following up from 8 lb higher at Huntingdon the following month. Lacks the scope for chasing and made an inauspicious start in this sphere at Ludlow in May. Stiff task at Chepstow on comeback last month. Headgear on.

Gained his fourth chase win of his career when wide-margin winner at Exeter (heavy) on New Year's Day. Well held next 4 starts, however, so bit to prove on return.

Potentially well handicapped now and shaped as if back to his best after 4 months off when second at Stratford 45 days ago, arguably deserving extra credit given things didn't go to plan early on. Considered.

Maiden point winner in January 2023 who readily surpassed what she achieved over hurdles when landing handicap chase at Worcester in June, suited by forcing the pace. Overdid things at Bangor next time, though.

Forecasts

Tapley (5/4), Pep Talking (5/2), Merry Monty (7/1), Begin The Luck (10/1), Sweet Nightingale (10/1), Imperial Jade (10/1), Calli Black (16/1), Belgarum (16/1), Flash Gorcombe (33/1)

Verdict

PEP TALKING has got a smashing strike rate over the last 18 months or so and can add another win to his tally back down in class. Merry Monty shaped best for much of the way back from a long absence at Uttoxeter and is a danger if this doesn't come too soon, while Tapley was a good second back over fences here 12 days ago.
