Successful at Plumpton on first 3 chase starts in 2023/24 and, though he's without a win since, he ran well when when second twice last season. However, he went backwards from this season's return when well held at Worcester last month.

Shaped much better than he had in bumpers for Thomas Gallagher when third in a Uttoxeter novice (19.9f, good to soft) on hurdling debut last season. Similar form next time, though was below-par at Doncaster on final outing in March. Has had wind op ahead of handicap/chase debut.

Pulled up sole outing in points, but showed ability over hurdles last season and improved for the switch to chasing when making a winning return at Uttoxeter (16f, good to soft) last month. Leading contender with the step back up in trip promising to suit.

Looked good prospect when winning 2 of 3 starts in bumpers but produced tame finishes sent hurdling last season, well-beaten third in a Southwell maiden (15.8f, good) when last seen in March. Yard is going well, though, as he makes handicap/chase debut with tongue strap added.

Ran to a fair level first 4 starts over hurdles and, after 23-month absence, shaped as if retaining his ability when fourth of 9 in handicap at Wincanton (24.7f, soft) in February. Has been off a further 9 months since, though, ahead of going chasing.

Without a win sent chasing last season, but after 6 months off he put his experience to good use when making all at Stratford (22.6f, good to soft) 20 days ago, holding off a pair of promising chasing debutants. Can make another bold bid.

Won a pair of 2m handicap hurdles last term and was in the process of improving from her seasonal/chasing debut when falling at the last at Fakenham (21.2f, good to soft) 3 weeks ago, keeping on almost alongside at the time. Capable of better in this sphere.

Forecasts

Chuggy (11/10), Another Folly (7/2), Thruthelookinglass (6/1), Dunskay (7/1), Duhallow Tommy (11/1), Icare Colombe (18/1), Mavis Pike (22/1)

Verdict

From a good family that the yard know well, CHUGGY showed improved form when making a winning chase debut at Uttoxeter on return and he can progress further now that he's up and running, especially as he goes back up in trip. The 5-y-o can get the better of fellow last-time-out winner Another Folly, while Mavis Pike should still have more to offer.
